Sweeten Up Spring with ChapStick

Posted on May 4, 2014January 10, 2016 by Mandy

I have a slight addiction to ChapStick.   It all started on a family trip to the coast a few years ago.  We stopped in a little convenience store and I picked up a tube when I realized I had left my usual lip moisturizer at home.  I chose the Cherry flavor and it smelled great and did the job.  From then on, I never bought anything different.  Ever.

That is, until, ChapStick rolled out their new Spring flavors.  With names like Citrus Jelly Bean and Pomegranate Gumdrop, it was hard to resist an opportunity to try these two out!  I’m also a sucker for anything pomegranate, and this ChapStick did not disappoint.  They both smell like candy and I found myself using them even more than usual.

You can find these new ChapStick flavors for a limited time at Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens (Pomegranate Gumdrop only).  They have a suggested retail price of $0.99- $2.18.  Be sure to stock up now since these great flavors won’t be around forever!

Be sure to check out www.ChapStick.com and follow them on Facebook.

Crosstie Arts & Jazz Festival- 2014

Posted on April 28, 2014January 10, 2016 by Mandy

crosstie arts festival

A couple of weekends ago we went to our town’s annual Crosstie Arts & Jazz Festival.  It’s exactly what it sounds like;  live jazz music, art of every medium for sale (clothing, jewelry, paintings,  pottery, wood, etc.) and many, many fabulous food vendors all on the court house lawn.

In my teen years, this was just a fun event to hang out at and to “see and be seen”.   In my twenties and early thirties I was all about some pottery and decorating our home.  Now?  I’m just ALL about this:

cajun crawfish

But not so much this:

roadkill grill

We went and had lunch (pizza for E.B., BBQ sandwich for the hubs, and crawfish for me), checked out the kid’s section for E.B., and then left.  It was a gorgeous day because CRAWFISH!

Springtime Fun with Julius Jr.

Posted on April 27, 2014January 10, 2016 by Mandy

julius jr.

Spring is here and what better way to celebrate with your child than enjoying some fun episodes of Julius Jr. Hopefully the snow is on the melt wherever you are and you and your child can have some fun dancing to “The Truth Rules” from the episode “Sno No Mo”.

Does the springtime rain have you stuck inside? My son spent a rainy Sunday personalizing this Julius Jr. tumbler cup.  I’ve already claimed it because I think Julius Jr. is just so stinkin’ cute!  I have to keep water handy at work because I’m reading aloud to my students so much during the day.  I know they are going to get a kick out of my new cup!

Be sure to check out Julius Jr. at http://www.nickjr.com/julius-jr and follow the series on Facebook, Twitter,Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube!  You can catch Julius Jr. weekdays at 5PM and Sundays at 10AM on Nick Jr.

I received the Julius Jr. cup as compensation for my partnership as a Saban brand ambassador.

My First Scholastic Book Fair

Posted on April 16, 2014January 10, 2016 by Mandy

Although I have been an elementary school librarian for six years,  two weeks ago I held my first ever Scholastic Book Fair.   I’d always wanted to do a book fair, but didn’t think I could quite guarantee it would be a success.  We are bursting at the seams in terms of available space in our school, so I had no idea where I would set up a huge book fair with the big silver cases.  One of my co-workers informed me that Scholastic offered what was called a “Box Book Fair”, which is essentially the same as a regular book fair, but just on a smaller scale.  That sounded do-able, so I decided to give it a chance and I am so glad that I did.

Setting up the fair was a breeze.  One of my sweet co-workers (shout-out to “Mrs. A”!) who encouraged me along the way and I had this boxed book fair set up in no time.  I kept the decorations really simple and the theme was “Book Fair Fiesta”, so I purchased some lime green plastic tablecloths and a piñata from Dollar General.  I was nervous because we had a goal of $500 we wanted to meet, but within two days, I am happy to report we reached our goal and then some!

The kids were SO excited.  This was the first time any of them had seen a book fair and their enthusiasm was so encouraging!  They are already asking me when we are doing it again!  I told them we would definitely plan to have one in the fall when school starts back.  The teachers enjoyed it as well.

I’m not going to sugar coat it, though.  It was hectic and Lord knows I hate dealing with money.  I learned some things I will try differently next time for sure.  But overall, getting my students excited about reading is what brings me the most joy out of my job and this definitely helped me do just that.  Thank you, Scholastic!

Multiple Litter Boxes Need Extreme Litter- #FreshStepExtreme

Posted on March 18, 2014January 10, 2016 by Mandy

The best way I can describe the relationship between our two cats is that they tolerate one another. We had very high hopes when we adopted Pearl, our muted calico, that she and Clyde, our big white ball of furry sweetness, would become fast friends. To say that was not the case is putting it mildly. Pearl hid under our bed for several days after we brought her home and made very sure we knew how much she did not appreciate that we had brought her into a home that had another cat. Four years have now passed and all I can say is that they peacefully (99% of the time) tolerate one another. For instance:

This? That’s about as close as you will ever see the two of them without some hissing and growling from Pearl. Poor Clyde just can’t catch a break. However, we love them both and they certainly bring our family comfort and happiness.

Having two cats in the home means twice the love, but it also means twice the litter boxes. That calls for extreme odor control, and there’s nothing better for that than Fresh Step ® Extreme Odor Control Scoopable Litter.

What makes this litter so great, especially for multiple-cat homes? Fresh Step ® Extreme Odor Control Scoopable Litter:

– Destroys Urine and feces odors on contact

– Remove 35% more urine and feces odors* *vs untreated clay

– CarbonPLUS™ provides extreme odor neutralization

– Antimicrobial agents help stop the growth of odor-causing bacteria

– Clumping clay makes it easy to scoop

I always worry about how the litter box might make our home smell and because of this, I scoop it several times a day. My experience using Fresh Step ® Extreme Odor Control Scoopable Litter has been nothing but positive and I like how it immediately starts working on whatever is left behind in the litter box. The cats seem to like it as well.

You can purchase Fresh Step ® Extreme Odor Control Scoopable Litter at mass retailers such as Walmart, Target, and local grocery stores.

Eat It Or Wear It

What’s fun on a Tuesday night?  Going to Sonic for a hot fudge sundae.  Even better?  When your kid accidently dumps said hot fudge sundae in his lap, freaks out, and somehow gets it all over the backseat.

sonic hot fudge

Lucky for this kid, his daddy has a heart of gold and went back to Sonic and got him a new hot fudge sundae because the kid was really, really sad about not getting his ice cream.

The next day while riding in the car, the kid starts giggling about what happened and said, “Mama, that’s how a MAN spills ice cream in the back seat!”.

*sigh*

Fellowes P-12C Paper Shredder Review

Posted on February 13, 2014October 24, 2020 by Mandy

#spon: I’m required to disclose a relationship between our site and Fellowes. This could include the Fellowes providing us w/content, product, access or other forms of payment.

After a couple of months of using my Fellowes P-12C paper shredder, I thought I would share how using this is helping me stay more organized and productive.   Before receiving it to try out, I never realized what a need I really had for this paper shredder.  Now that it’s making my life so much easier when it comes to my work, I wonder what I ever did without it to begin with.

fellowes-shredder

I have a tendency to let my work pile up all over my desk and used to delay dealing with sensitive information like blogging, work and personal documents until I had time to rip them into tiny pieces.  I’m happy to report I am staying on top of things much better now that I can just run anything that needs to be shredded through my new paper shredder.  My desk is staying much neater, which makes a neat-freak like me feel very happy.  I just feel so much better and productive when I have room to work and everything is in its place.

But my absolute favorite part of this shredder?  I love how super easy it is to dispose of the contents once it’s full.  In the past with other shredders I have owned, I have always had to take off the entire top of the shredder to empty it out.  Look how easy it is just to slide out the bin!

shredded paper

The P-12C is definitely a workhorse when it comes to shredding.  I just recently used it to shred up some old insurance cards and an expired debit card and was seriously impressed with how it handled those thicker items without one jam.  This also made me feel better knowing anything we put through the shredder is pretty much impossible for anyone who might find it to reassemble and use to their advantage.  You just can’t be too careful these days.  This shredder comes with cross-cut blades that destroy 12 sheets of paper into approximately 309 particles per sheet.  That should make anyone feel confident while using it.

I also love the fact that the Fellowes P-12C shredder is equipped with SafeSense® technology which automatically disables the shredder when hands touch the paper opening.  If you have kids, this is an added bonus for easing your mind about curious little hands finding their way to check out the shredder.

Finally, with tax season in full swing, I am so thankful for this shredder as it will be a huge help in also helping protect our family against identity theft when it comes time to dispose of sensitive information.

The P-12C can be purchased at Walmart Stores nationwide and at www.Walmart.com.
