52nd birthday

Birthday Haul

Posted on September 2, 2026 by Mandy

I forgot to share these pictures in my last post. I celebrated my 52nd birthday a couple of weeks ago.  Hubby wasn’t home for my actual birthday, but he came in the next night bearing cake, flowers, and cards!  It was such a sweet surprise.  Turning 50 was rough, but this birthday just felt “fine”.  I don’t know why I took 50 so hard, haha!

We made a flying trip to a town about 45 minutes away so that I could spend my birthday gift cards and money at, you guessed it, Bath & Body Works!  They were having a good sale on candles, and using coupons and my gift cards, I made out with all of this with just $50 out of pocket.

I’m trying to decide if I am ready to get out our fall decor and start decorating, but I think I may wait until the end of September.  I do more fall than Halloween/Thanksgiving, so it stays up for three months, but by the first of November, I am so tired of looking at orange and brown, haha!  I’m thinking that if I wait a little longer, maybe I won’t tire of it all so soon.  Plus, with days pushing 100 degrees, it most certainly does not feel like fall.

I’ve discovered some stationery groups on Facebook and have been downloading some awesome designs with the intention of writing people real letters again.  I remember writing my cousins and my pen pal while growing up, and I miss that.  I know I probably won’t receive any replies back, but I think it will be fun.

Other than that, I am just taking it easy today.  I’ve had to get out the past two days running errands, but I’m just ready for a slow kind of day.  I had my coffee on the patio early this morning while birdwatching.  I’ve talked to hubby on the phone.  I’m catching up on blogs now.  I may do a little reading later.  And a nap, of course!  Haha!

And Now It’s September!

Posted on September 1, 2026 by Mandy

Well, hey y’all!  Long time no post…again! I’ve let time just slip right by me and figured I needed to dust off the old blog and see if it still works. I made some big changes.  The ads were driving me crazy, and after 10 years of the very same blog theme, I installed a new one.  I pray everything is in working order.  I am not great with blog themes anymore, and hiring someone to do it for me would take an insane amount of money now!  I’ve been blogging so long that I can remember when custom themes used to be affordable, haha!  I used ChatGPT to create a new header… it did all the heavy lifting for me.  I kind of like it!  All that to say, if you see something broken or not working, please let me know!

Our summer was mostly spent here at home, trying to stay cool.  We have had one HOT summer.  We are still under excessive heat warnings.  I will be so glad when we get a little relief!  I’ve been doing my usual….burning my candles…

I’ve read a couple of books, been overseeing dental appointments for the Young Man, popping into the library more often.  Speaking of Young Man, he and the hubby made a trip in July to Texas to go see the Texas Rangers play at the “new to them” ball park in Arlington.  The last time we had been to a game, Young Man was 8 years old.

Time flies!  They had a wonderful time, and they also got to go the Dallas Zoo, where Young Man Facetimed me when he got to the penguin exhibit because he knows that’s my favorite animal!  It made my heart so happy!  I love when technology can be used like this!

And where was I?  At home!  Haha!  I knew there was NO way I could do this trip with how hot it is and all of the walking around that would have to be done.  I just let them have a guys trip and I stayed home and did a little cleaning, ate girl dinner (where you eat whatever you want and don’t have to worry about cooking for anyone else), and reading on my ipad.

I had a little visit with my cousin to celebrate her daughter’s birthday:

We ate at a Mexican restaraunt and then her daughter wanted to go bowling.  I sat and watched and enjoyed visiting with her.

It also feels so weird now that school has started, not having a kid to send to school anymore.  Young Man is still job hunting, and it is so discouraging.  I cannot tell you how many places he has applied, even to Walmart just to have a job until something came available in his area of trainging, and not one bite!  I’m almost convinced some of these job listings are bogus, but I do know that jobs are hard to come by these days.  So, I just keep encouraging him to keep looking and applying and keep networking.

I’ve been trying to read blogs here and there as well.  I know I really need to clean up my feed reader.  I follow SO many blogs that it has become very overwhelming.  I don’t know why having so many choices is overwhelming for me, but I’ve noticed that in all areas of my life.  Can anyone relate?  Haha!

I’ve been struggling the past few weeks with my health.  I’ve got to go get some more tests done this month.  If you pray, please send some prayers my way.  Just dealing with some pain and not really knowing what is causing it.  It has really slowed me down, and if I’m honest, it’s really bothering me and I’m feeling a little defeated, and I hate feeling like this.

But!  It’s September, and I’m praying cooler weather will be on the way and better days are coming!  That’s my little update.  I hope everyone is doing well and I’m hoping to be back here more often.

May Life Update

Posted on May 19, 2026May 18, 2026 by Mandy

Hey y’all!  Yes, it’s been three months since I’ve posted here.  I can’t believe it.  Life has just moved very fast in the last three months, but I thought I would pop in with a May life update on what’s been going on around here.

First, and most importantly, we have a junior college graduate!

junior college graduate

Young Man received his Associate of Applied Science in Precision Manufacturing and Machine Technology, graduating magna cum laude two weeks ago. And we are SO proud of how hard he worked, the very early mornings and long days he had to put in, and just how much he has grown these past two years.  Thankfully, college graduation is not nearly as stressful/busy as the time leading up to high school graduation, but we still had some preparation to get there, which took up some of my time.

Mother's Day flowers

We also celebrated Mother’s Day this month, and hubby got me this gorgeous bouquet of flowers.  Y’all, they are STILL looking just as fresh as over a week ago when he bought them!  I have really been enjoying the beauty they add to the dining room.  I spent some time with my own mama that day and just enjoyed a relaxing, slow day.

We had some medical appointments to get out of the way last week, with hubby and me going to the endocrinologist, and taking my mama to her heart doctor.  These appointments required a couple of hours’ travel each way, and riding is terribly uncomfortable for me, so the latter part of this past week was spent recovering from them.  I also had a slight bout of pneumonia in late February that I’m still feeling the lingering effects from.  But I’ve been resting as much as possible here lately, now that some of the excitement of the last two weeks has died down.

50th birthday cake

This past weekend, we celebrated hubby turning 50.  Time just flies!  He was 22 when we got married.  Just a baby!  Haha!  I am so thankful for him.

And, as per usual, I have been taking in the sunrises and watching my birds each morning.

And burning my candles and wax melts.

I’ve also been trying to get to bed earlier and stay better hydrated.  We had our first really hot day on Sunday, and I am not at all ready for this summer!  I see lots of staying indoors during peak sunlight hours.

Anyway, that’s the bulk of what’s been happening over here.  How are YA’LL doing?  I can’t wait to catch up with everyone!
