When you have a child with a speech delay, anytime they say a complete sentence with more than three or four words, it’s cause for a celebration. Just in the last two weeks our son has had such a language explosion that Cracked Daddy and I have been positively giddy, considering the fact that we had to temporarily stop his therapy sessions because of our craptastic insurance that considers our hospital out of network and doesn’t want to cover as much as they should. (Oh, hai United Healthcouldcareless!)

In any case, we’ve been hearing E.B. tell us what he ate for lunch at school, tell us that his stomach hurts, and tell us that he loves us. That last one is a huge, huge deal and I think it’s pretty self-explanatory as to why. Although he will be 4 next month, these are the things we have longed to hear him say…the simple little words we take for granted as being “the norm”.

Last night as I was bathing E.B. he proudly proclaimed to me, “Look Mama! My butt…it’s so pretty!”

7 words, y’all. I don’t know whether to beam with pride or run for the hills.

That is so cute…I wish my butt was as pretty! I’m sure your heart just melted, and you let out a giggle when he said that. I hope things will continue looking up for you!

Yay!! That’s great news about EB!! I was worried for a long time that my eldest had a speech delay. Let me tell you when that girl started talking, it was the best thing in the world. So I can only imagine how thrilled you are with his speech!!

Hey break out the champagne! My youngest son had a horrible lisp and delayed speech so no one could ever understand him. He used to get so frustrated!

Beam with pride my friend! Beam with pride. Keep praying for God to do His mighty work within your baby! I know how God can work His mighty powers when it comes to a child with a disability. There is indeed power in prayer my friend.

Be careful what you wish for!!!

This reminds me of my daughter’s first written homework – she had to write a sentence about what was on the clothes line in the picture. They encourage phonetic spelling – just sound it out and don’t worry about correct spelling.

This was her sentence, which she was so proud of :

There are tights and shirts on the line.

She left out the “gh” and the “r” in tights and shirts – I could not leave it as it was, so with some gentle coaxing, we improved on the spelling!

I think you should print and frame this post along with a picture of his . . .

Well, maybe not. That may cause need for a whole different kind of therapy. 😉
