Birthday Cake FAIL

Posted on September 8, 2010 by Mandy

Bless my husband’s heart.

He goes above and beyond to make me feel special on my birthday.  This year was no exception.  He took E.B. to pick out birthday cards and a cake to come home and surprise me with.  They were so proud of themselves as they revealed their efforts to make me happy.

The cake:

As they sang Happy Birthday to me, all I could do was laugh while tears rolled down my cheeks.  Naturally, Cracked Daddy wanted to know what was so stinkin’ funny.  Then he realized the number 4 on the cake had been placed on there backwards.

But that’s not all.

Because?  It was my 36th birthday, not my 34th.

God knows I love them for trying.

NutraSea Kids Review

Posted on September 6, 2010September 8, 2010 by Mandy

Fish oil.  Doesn’t really sound very appetizing, does it?  When my doctor recently mentioned to me that I needed to add Omega-3 fatty acids to my diet and suggested I buy some fish oil capsules to take, the thought made me want to be sick.  There are many reasons why you need Omega-3 fatty acids, and you can read about them here, but the main reason my doctor suggested them to me was to help reduce inflammation.

Around this same time, Mom Central had an opportunity for moms and kids to try some omega-3 and vitamin D supplements made by NutraSea.  I was sent a formula for adults and one for kids for E.B. to test out.  Both products were in a liquid form.  Am I a bad mom to admit that I made my own son try his formula before I tried mine?

The NutraSea Kids formula smelled just like berries and my son liked it.  I was amazed.  He said it tasted good, too, so I measured out a serving for myself of the adult formula and gave it a try. The NutraSea+D for adults did not smell like berries, but it didn’t have an awful taste like I imagined it might, so overall, we were pleasantly surprised with our experience with NutraSea.  No bad aftertaste and no unpleasant side effects.

NutraSea is recommended for children two to thirteen years old and if any of your children have fish allergies you should consult your doctor before using NutraSea.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of NutraSea Kids campaign and received NutraSea samples to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Staples Back to School Review & Giveaway- Closed

Posted on September 6, 2010September 12, 2010 by Mandy

If you read my post I wrote a few weeks ago about buying back-to-school supplies, then you probably can share some of my frustrations with what a time consuming process that little shopping trip can be.  Staples wants to make this process a little easier on families and they have supplies in their Back To School Center to fit any student’s style. They even have an exclusive line of DoSomething.org-inspired products that both Moms and teens can be sure to get on board with! Featuring cools designs including background on social issues, these products help students stay organized while learning about important issues impacting their communities.

Mom Select and Staples generously sent me a fantastic Back To School kit filled with school supplies to help make starting our school year off a little easier.  They have also supplied a $25 Staples gift card for one of my readers!
