As an educator, I see the difference my colleagues and I are making in the lives of the children we serve each day.  As a parent, I deeply appreciate the care and service that teachers give to my son on a daily basis.  Each day when I send him off to school, I know my son is in good hands and I trust that his needs will be met. This business of educating children is hard work.

If you have a child heading back to school and are looking for a great book to get them excited about a new school year, The Berenstain Bears Go Back to School by Jan & Stan Berenstain with Mike Berenstain is a perfect book to read together.  This story walks the reader in detail through Brother and Sister Bear’s first day back to school after a summer break.  If your child is already a big fan of The Berenstain Bears series, they will find this book to be highly interesting and fun to read.

On the first day of the school year, Brother and Sister Bear are nervous and excited. But with tons of new stuff to learn and explore, by the closing bell they can hardly wait for day two!

I read this book to my son during the week leading up to the start of his new school year and we enjoyed this rhyming tale that depicts the emotions of excitement and nervousness the little bears felt as they faced a new school year.  It has been my experience that children really love these types of books as they can really identify with the characters’ feelings, so this is one I would highly recommend for getting your child excited about all of the possibilities a new school year holds.

Back To School- Nervous Librarian Edition

Well, tomorrow starts another school year for me.  I’m really excited and nervous.  Last week was filled with professional development and trying to unpack my things in the new library and get somewhat settled in.  I still don’t feel like I have it all together.  There are so many new procedures and things for me to learn and remember at my new school.  I was in tears on Thursday and I think I walked around a little shell shocked on Friday, but a good night’s rest left me feeling better by Saturday.  I know this feeling will pass once I get in my groove.  However, my new co-workers have been super, super helpful and I just hope I can make them all proud to have me by the year’s end.

E.B. had a great first day in second grade last week.  He was very nervous the night before, but he came home excited and I know he is enjoying being with his friends again.  There are lots of new things for me to keep up with for him this year, too.  I know he is in great hands, though.

I’m looking forward to meeting my new students.  I hope I can sleep tonight!  I’m just as bad about being wired the night before school starts as I was when I was a kid.
