Parent Bloggers Network is teaming up with Burger King and asking readers to share their “dining out horror stories” with your children. It’s hard to pick just one instance of cringe-worthy behavior from E.B. while out eating at a restaurant. The one that stands out the most in my mind is the night we took E.B. to a local blues and BBQ restaurant. We’d been there before and E.B. loves the place, but on this particular night I decided to order crawfish, something E.B. had never seen before.
The waitress brought the crawfish out on a large tray that was covered and sat it down before me. E.B. was seated right beside me and as soon as I took the cover off of the tray he let out the shrillest scream I’d ever heard and proceeded to hysterically proclaim to the whole restaurant that, “It’s BUGS!!! IT’S BUGS!!! MOMMY EAT BUGS!!!!!!”. Of course, everyone in the restaurant turned their attention towards us and then collectively fell into laughter when they realized why E.B. was so upset. The kid was so hysterical he had to go sit beside my mother on the other side of the table and refused to look in my direction the entire time we were there. When he did finally sneak a look towards me he burst into tears once more, causing my dad to have to take him to the car to sit with him and wait while the rest of us hurriedly finished our dinner.
A rushed dinner, hysterical screaming child, and a restaurant full of patrons laughing at us. Just the way we love to spend a Friday night dining out.

Now that he mentions it, they do sort of look like bugs. 😉

Great story to enter! Had a friend who had a similar experience but luckily they had the crawfish at a family cookout! LOL

Well at least you didn’t have to share your dinner – that’s something right?

Oh, BLESS YOUR HEART. Bless his heart. My goodness. All Mommy wanted was some good ole boiled crawfish! With little ones, ya just never know!

    (Was that at Tin Roof?)

I had to laugh out loud on this post. Just Friday night we went to a chinese buffet for my step daughter’s belated birthday dinner. The buffet had crawfish on it to which my hubby and I had a field day. Younger step son kept proclaiming we were eating bugs as well.

Very funny. Mom was eating some really big and really ugly bugs. Doesn’t it make you wonder who was the first person to look at those things and think, “Ewe! Yummy!”

I’ve tried them – that was my one and only time.

This brings a whole new meaning to the term “mudbugs.”

LOL!!! While I have never eaten crawdads, my husband and children look at me the same way when I eat steamed shrimp and crab legs…

And DH always accuses me of eating bugs!
