It’s a brand new week! How is the time change working for you? We did okay here, I think. I’m not too fond of it getting dark so early in the evening, but I do like it being lighter outside when I wake up. It used to confuse me when I was working because I always thought I was late for work when I awoke to daylight. Haha!
Happy Rangers Fans
I forgot to mention that there was much celebrating in our home last Wednesday night when the Texas Rangers won the World Series! Hubby has been a team fan for almost thirty years now, and we even got to catch a game a few years ago. It was my first MLB game, and it was super long and definitely memorable! Hubby was so excited for this World Series win! He stayed up almost all night watching replays and interviews. He also caught the big parade on Friday afternoon when the team arrived back in Arlington. I was glad he could be home to catch all of that. He’s waited for this a long time! Here’s a picture of Hubby and The Teen at the game we attended 11 years ago.
Looking Ahead to the Holidays
Have you started looking ahead to the holidays yet? I am trying to get a master list together this year so that I don’t forget some things. I mainly want to make sure I have all of my holiday ingredient grocery shopping done by next week at least. I order our groceries and pick them up, and last year, there were very long wait times and even a canceled order close to Thanksgiving day. So, I’m trying to go through the recipes for our favorite treats and things I take to family get-togethers and make sure I’m ready earlier.
I’ve also asked The Teen if he could think of anything he wanted for Christmas, and so far, he can’t. He is prone to wait until the last minute to put in his requests, and it’s usually something hard to track down. Haha! I’ve decided to go the gift card route this year with everyone else except for my mom. She can usually think of a few things she likes, and she isn’t hard to buy for. However, we have a lot of kids in the family, and we have always enjoyed going out and picking out something each one would like, but they are getting to an age where I’m not sure what all they are really into anymore, so I think a gift card will be the next best choice.
Roofing Update
One of the roofing people stopped by late Friday afternoon and looked around at the job that was left. I sent Hubby out to talk to him as I was in the kitchen cooking, and he reported back that the roofing guy said that what was left undone would be completed soon. I think we will still have to find someone else to do the very top of the front of the house that has some vinyl siding, but we will see. Apparently, nobody does vinyl siding where we live. I’m sure a piece of metal could also be placed there. So, we continue to wait.
Hope y’all have a great start to your week!

It’s always good to be organized ahead of time for the holidays, but, not always possible! I am not really planning for Thanksgiving until I know for sure that my daughter is able to come home. If she is able to come home, then, it will be just the two of us and we will ask my late friend’s daughters if they’d like to join us. If my daughter is not able to come home, then, it will be just me, myself, and I!
As for Christmas, I updated my gift giving list, the other day. I usually make jams and chutney during the summer and give them as gifts to family and friends. I just need to make a few things to add to them to make up gift baskets, The kids in the family all live out of state, so, I’ll have to order gifts to be shipped to them.

Congratulations on the World Series win. I am not a huge baseball fan but understand how amped up those who are get. I am sure it was unforgettable for your husband.

Haha…I have those same last minute Christmas list makers over here, too. When they were small Santa was done shopping by October, now I find myself scrambling late in December waiting on them. I guess it means they have all that they need…and want…right now. Lucky kids!!

Right? Haha! But it sure makes guessing tough. I kind of miss when he was little and just happy with pretty much anything. He isn’t hard to please, but taking a guess according to his interests gets tough sometimes. Haha!

Hello dear Mandy!
Congrats on the big team win of the world series!! That’s awesome! 🙂
I’m already looking ahead at holiday things too. I ordered my turkey and I’m working on my thanksgiving list for the menu. I do a lot from scratch just for that holiday – so I have a list for what I make 4, 3, 2 and then the day before the big day! Lots of work, but I love doing it. However, if I didn’t keep a list I’d forget something for sure. Lol
My teenager gave me her list finally. Still not sure from my son. I’ve already been ordering some gifts for folks and picking up things. I like to get the bulk of my shopping done by this month so December is more about family time, baking, wrapping, just enjoying the anticipation of the different celebrations. 🎄
I hope your roof issues get completed soon! It’s always so nice when those kinds of projects are DONE! 😉
Blessings on the rest of your week. xo

Carrie, I love the way you operate during the holidays! December is always so hectic, so having the bulk of it done before then is just smart! I also like the way you get your meal together. I’m fortunate that I only have to bring a dish to most of our holiday functions because either my mom or my aunts host. If I had to host, I would be crazy, I’m sure! Haha!

Congrats to the Rangers! So exciting!
I do a yearly shopping trip with my sisters in November and that is coming on Friday, so I’ve been listmaking…
Mandy says
That’s great, Mari! And I know it makes the task extra fun being with your sisters. I hope y’all have a great time!

So nice to read. I hope your house gets finished soon.
For Thanksgiving, do you have to give gifts? We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Europe. Regarding Christmas, we have two Christmas days. Often, it’s a time for families to gather and have a nice meal. Most Dutch people aren’t religious. Giving gifts at Christmas was never a tradition, but for the past decade or so, people have started doing it, influenced by the American custom. We don’t exchange gifts at Christmas n our house. Maybe I’ll invite my daughter and her boyfriend. It depends on my husband’s energy level.
So, it doesn’t incur any extra expenses… these last two months. Except for my birthday on the 18th.
I’m experiencing a bit of discomfort with the dark evenings, so I’ve dug out my daylight lamp again. I love the forst photo. So cool. 11 years ago, wow. De tijd vliegt.

Hey Aritha! No Thanksgiving gifts, but yes to gifts at Christmas. One side of our family is just huge, with lots of kids, and while we love being with our family, it does get to be a strain on the budget sometimes. But, I love the way ya’ll do things. I think that is originally how Christmas was celebrated, but it got so commercialized here in America. I sure hope the daylight lamp is helping. In years past, the early darkness really tugged at my mental well-being sometimes, but this year, it just makes me want to go crawl in my bed by 6 PM! Haha!
