No, these won’t be your typical sappy grandparent quotes. These are quotes I’ve heard in my lifetime from my elderly grandparents that crack me up everytime I think of them.
“I’m going to brain you!!!”….Great Grandma M. She always said this when she was mad and this was her ultimate threat of bodily harm. We never did figure out what “brain you” actually meant, but we all still have our brains, so that’s good.
“You’d better watch out or ‘ole Scratch is going to get you!!”….Grandma E. Apparently, Scratch is the devil and we were supposed to be very, very afraid. Just the name alone would send shivers down my spine when I was a little girl. All I could picture in my mind was a devil just waiting to scratch me to death.
“I swanny!!”…Grandma E. This was a nice lady’s way of saying, “I swear!”, because nice ladies just did not swear…or even allude to the fact that they thought about it.
And my personal favorite…..
“A hard head makes for a sore a**!”…another Grandma E gem. Pretty self explanatory. And you know what? She was right!
Hahaha! My grand mother used to sat “I Swanny!” I haven’t thought about that in years! She also used to say “Land o’ Goshen!”
