What day is it again?
I’ve asked myself this more than once over the last two weeks! But, it’s back to reality around our home. The holidays were filled with lots of good food and vegging out. Hubby was able to take almost two weeks off work, so we enjoyed our time together as a family so much. My husband is an over-the-road truck driver, so our time together is limited. He finally had to return to work this morning, but the Teen is still out of school until Monday. Speaking of vegging out…does it get any cuter than this?
In the afternoons, when I take a nap, more times than not, I wake up to Jake snuggled up beside me. A literal cat nap!
Morning Storms
Our morning started with tornado sirens and torrential rain. We had pretty good thunderstorms last night, but this morning was worse. Thankfully, we are fine, and we have no weather-related damage. I haven’t heard of any in town except a stop light partially knocked down by the wind. But still, what a way to start a morning! Once the bad weather passed, I got my shower, headed to my mama’s house to visit with her, and popped into Dollar General for some milk. I came home and had some lunch, and napped. I’m currently working on the laundry I’ve avoided since Saturday. Oops.
Ringing In The New Year
Our New Year’s Eve was tame. Hubby and I did stay up to see the new year. We were watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, mainly because Duran Duran was performing. They’ve only been my favorite band since I was 8 years old. They were fantastic and the perfect way to ring in the new year! At midnight, it sounded like a war zone outside! Our neighbors (well, it sounded like the whole neighborhood, actually) were very enthusiastic about the new year, as displayed with really loud fireworks. It went on for about twenty minutes. We slept in a little on New Year’s Day, and then hubby insisted on making a traditional New Year’s Day meal for lunch.
He cheated a little…canned peas, turnip greens, and store-bought cornbread, but it was still so delicious! After all the holiday food we’d been eating, my body had been craving some vegetables.
And More Christmas!
Speaking of holidays, I think I mentioned we had to move my mama’s side of the family Christmas celebration to New Year’s Eve because of scheduling conflicts. At the last minute, we decided to go out to eat at a restaurant before returning to mama’s house to open gifts, so we all met up at Airport Grocery, a blues-themed restaurant with fantastic barbecue and so much more. I love the old-time decor there.
As I mentioned above, I was tired of holiday-type food, so I ordered half a dozen tamales and a side salad. It was more I could eat, so I shared some with hubby. It was delicious, though!
The Rest of the Week
The plan for tomorrow is to start the morning by ensuring the Teen is registered for his senior year of school. Registration begins early for the next school year, so that has to be done. I’ll be keeping the laundry going and working on some little organizing projects. I have so much to keep me busy. What’s going on in your world? Are you tackling the new year with new projects, too?

Your title spoke my language! ha ha! I enjoyed catching up on how things have been going there and glad you got to watch your favorites perform for New Years Eve. Unlike your 20 mins. of celebration noise, our’s started at 10 p.m. (They get really excited & impatient up here! 🙂 ) and went all the way til 1 a.m. Jan. 1st a few of them must have had leftover firecrackers because we’d hear them sporadically.
Love that Airport Grocery decor!! Happy new year and prayers for God’s huge blessings on you and your family, Mandy!

(((grinning)))) I haven’t the foggiest idea what day it is, LOLOLOL. Seriously, these last 2 weeks have been running together. Those tamales look really good. Wishing you a beautiful week.
Mandy says
Same to you, Linda! Hugs!!

Glad to hear that you weren’t affected too much by the storm! Waking up to a tornado warning would have probably got my heart thumping!
Mandy says
Yes, it was an exciting morning! I’m just so thankful it wasn’t bad. I’d rather have rough weather during the day than at night.

So glad that your new year is off to a good start. I LOVE Duran, Duran too. Wish I had known they were performing on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. That restaurant you went to looks like a fun place. Those tamales look delicious. I love tamales smothered in chili. Glad you had a nice holiday season with your family. See you again soon!
Mandy says
Ahhh Deb!! I had no idea you were a big Duran Duran fan, too! I have loved their music since I was eight years old. I’m sure the replay video of it is floating around somewhere out there on YouTube.

Duran Duran!!! YESSSSSS!!!!! My sister and I were totally obsessed with them in the ’80s. She stayed into them much longer than I did, actually probably still is. I drifted away once they started splitting up and doing side projects. We did finally get to see them live though in 2000-something, 2 nights in a row at House of Blues in Chicago. Andy had returned for that tour, so that was cool. My sister also met them in passing a few years later while waiting outside with other diehard groupies. lol
Who was your favorite? John was mine, although Andy had his moments.
Mandy says
Oh wow, Deb!! Your sister is so lucky!! Haha! And how awesome that y’all got to see them when Andy was still with them. When I saw them, Andy had left again. And sadly, he’s very sick now. I’m so glad I have another blog friend that is a Duranie!! My favorite was Roger…but gosh, they were all just beautiful back in the day!! LOL!!

We usually stay up and greet the new year, but this year we had friends over and all decided we would have a fun night, but not till midnight. 🙂 So we were in bed a little after 11, but were also woken by fireworks at midnight.
That restaurant is very cool!
I’m also working on some organizing things here.
Mandy says
Mari, as the years go by, it gets harder and harder for me to stay up until midnight. I think taking a nap earlier that afternoon helped things. Haha!

Those tamales look amazing! We woke up to storms here near Memphis, Tn yesterday as well…that always bothers me a little, because of how unpredictable they can be. Warm weather here in January usually isn’t a good thing and one of my sons was driving out of town in it yesterday. I was praying and stalking him on Life 360, which I never do, since our four sons are adults. I know you enjoyed all the family time, especially with your husband traveling a lot for work. ❤
