Gosh, I wanted to do a welcoming in August post, and here we are, at almost the halfway mark! This month is already flying by fast! Anyway, you know I have to start with a picture of my August Beanie Babies! I have the little Back-To-School Bear, and the Birthday Bear is out! August is my birthday month.
It has been SO wonderful here weather-wise these past few days. Mornings in the 60s, and even though it got up to 95, there was a steady wind, so it didn’t feel as hot. I’ve been sitting on the patio with Jake and one of the little stray cats hanging around, enjoying it. I’ve also been able to get lots of watering done without sweating to death. I wish it would continue like this, but I think the heat is returning with a vengeance later this week. Boo!
We’ve been watching a little more of the Olympics, and I was so excited about the Breaking competition, but after watching the women, I was just left bewildered. I can remember seeing break dancing for the first time when I was in elementary school. We had a student transfer to our school from New York, and he was amazing! He even had his boom box and a piece of cardboard for spinning! So, I naturally expected to see much of that during the breaking competition at the Olympics. Still, other than a couple of the participants, I didn’t see what you would expect, and I was really disappointed. But maybe it has just evolved into that, and I’m just OLD! Haha!
I really don’t have anything exciting to report. Last week, my Facebook feed was full of back-to-school pictures, which I love to see! It felt strange not to send a kid off to regular school this year. Instead, I will spend this week trying to get information from The Teen’s college about what we owe on his student account and a few other details. I’m almost in disbelief that this isn’t readily available online, as he has an account. But I know these schools are having a terrible time with the FAFSA (financial aid) this year, so I’m trying to be patient. I’m just one of those types who likes to have everything ready to go as far ahead as possible.
Speaking of college, I’m also seeing some of my friend’s kids and The Teen’s classmates decorated dorm rooms on Facebook! I love looking at the girl’s rooms because it is amazing how they can transform a small little room into something that looks like it jumped out of a magazine! These dorm rooms are what I’m talking about. I will say one thing about SEC colleges- they go above and beyond when rushing sororities and decorating dorm rooms. Is it ridiculous? Probably. Am I here for it? ABSOLUTELY!! Haha!
Anyway, I hope your Monday goes smoothly! I’ll be back soon!

My son wasn’t even really interested in coordinating with his roommates. Meanwhile, another mom said her daughter’s group was deciding which type of toilet paper to bring to the suite bathroom. I died. Those are really some rooms!
Today was Nick’s last first day (of K-12), and it was crazy to me that we are here again so quickly. It’s emotional for sure. We drop Sam off in about a month. That’s when things will feel really different. All of his college billing information is available online, although he did have to fill out a form to give me access. He was motivated, because he wants me to pay. 😉
Mandy says
We had to fill out the same form, too, to have access to our son’s account! That blew my mind. They really take the privacy of these kids to another level! I hope Nick and Sam both have amazing years! These milestones are so special!

Hello dear Friend!
I”m feeling all the feels without true back to school too! It’s so weird. I was at Target the other day and just looked at the things to remember those days. Sigh. But I, too, have been looking at all the neat dorm room ideas too. Annie was with me at Target and we were grabbing some things and that was fun too. Just a new chapter – exciting in many ways…if not bittersweet.
Blessings on your week. xo
Mandy says
I can imagine the fun you and Annie have had in choosing things for her room! I hope she loves it and has a wonderful time! The college years are so fun! I made some great friends there!
Cheryl says
Hope all goes well with college. WOW – time flies.
Loving this cooler weather for a bit – but I am sure summer isn’t done with us quite yet!
Mandy says
Cheryl, this week has been SOOO amazing weather-wise for us! I have soaked up every second I could!

I remember when we were moving my boys into their dorms, the girls had twice as much stuff, and it was all coordinated. My boys had what was on the list and didn’t care about anything else. 🙂
Mandy says
Our son isn’t staying in a dorm, but I’m glad we had a boy after seeing these girls’ rooms and what I might have been expected to live up to! I am SOOO not a decorator! Haha! But, I would have done it if need be.
Bless says
Hope your son enjoys attending his college classes. And happy birthday month to you!
Mandy says
Thank you, Bless! He is loving it so far!
Mari says
I can’t believe it’s August, much less back to school time!
I didn’t watch the break dancing, but the girls at work were talking about it and showed me a few clips. Crazy! And personally, I don’t think it’s a sport…
Those dorm rooms are amazing!
Mandy says
Wasn’t that hysterical, Mari? Haha!!
Sandy says
My hubby and literally were just talking about the break dancing. Now, I a, old enough to say why is this a sport. Ha! Apparently, a woman got a score of zero that is according to Hubby, so maybe you were right that they were just bad.
I am also shocked by the dorm rooms these days. These kids would die if they had to live in the places I lived so long ago.
Kim says
My son’s dorm room is the same kind of cinderblock room I lived in in the late 80s! He’s always talking about how nice (and air conditioned!) the dorm rooms his friends who went to Southern schools live in
Mandy says
He’s not wrong! Haha! The air conditioning is a must here! haha! But the rooms are basically just the same as your were, but these parents can make them look amazing with their decorating skills! I saw another one yesterday that was crazy beautiful.
Mandy says
I never lived on campus because the university is literally down the street from where I grew up, but I don’t even remember my friends doing all of this to their rooms. They may have had matching comforters, but that was the extent of it. The times, they do change! Haha!
Billie Jo says
Hello! Can you even believe it is time for Back to School?? I pray your college prep goes well and you can get it done with plenty of time to relax. Love your Beanie Babies!
Mandy says
Thanks, Billie Jo! I hope you and Flynn have a great year as well! I can’t wait to see what y’all get up to!
Marilyn says
I hope the college year gets off to a good start for your son. The college dorms are out of control for sure! I am glad my girls kep it pretty simple. Enjoy your evening!
Mandy says
Thanks, Marilyn! I think simple is good! I love to see these over-the-top rooms, but I’m sure glad I don’t have to do this with my kid! Haha!
