Yay! It’s September! I’m glad to see the ‘Ber Months are finally here. This year has really gone by so fast. We woke up to perfect weather yesterday! It was even almost downright cold this morning here in the Deep South! Any day I am not sweating or freezing is a good day, and I think Spring and Fall are just the best!
Fall Beanie Babies
I haven’t gone crazy with fall decor just yet, but I did put up a couple of fall-colored Beanie babies on the mantle.
The little 4H bear is a nod to all the farmers around here deep into harvest season. Every day, they harvest and then burn the fields. So, with the smell of smoke and the cooler weather, it just feels like fall is finally here. However, I know this may be another “False Fall” round, so I appreciate this cooler weather when we get it.
Exploring Mississippi
One thing I did in the past couple of weeks was to take my mama to a heart doctor appointment. We picked up The Teen from college along the way, and he went with us to push Mama’s wheelchair. Walking into the building and down long halls is almost impossible for her, so we grab a wheelchair when we get there. The Teen does a great job of “driving” her around. Along the way, we made a bathroom break stop at a rest area right in the middle of Highway 49 in Pocahontas, Mississippi. This rest area is also an archeological site containing two Indian mounds.
I’ve passed by this place probably hundreds of times in my life but never took the time to stop. It has very nice restrooms, and I wish we’d had time to explore the mounds, but we had to get back on the road because we were pressed for time. Hopefully, we can stop again one day when we have more time. More research showed me that our state has a Mound Trail where historical mounds are marked. I thought that was pretty neat! I know that there are many in my county, mainly in the farmland areas. You would probably guess they were just hills unless someone told you exactly what they were. Fascinating stuff!
Mini-Reunion
I also joined two of my high school classmates for lunch on Saturday.
One of them (my best friend) lives here, and the other was visiting from out of town for the weekend. It was so good to catch up with them both and we are making plans to get together again soon. I’ve known them both since meeting them in 7th grade when all of our elementary schools merged into one junior high school.
College Update
Other than that, we got word last week that The Teen received three more alumni/foundation scholarships from his community college! We knew he was getting one when they contacted him last week to sign for it and take his picture, but when he got there, it was actually three! We are just so excited for him. He continues to love his classes, and we couldn’t ask for much more.
On The Home Front
I managed to clean and organize our pantry, but now I need to work on our laundry room. It’s not a complete wreck, but I want to get in there, straighten up some cabinets, and throw out some things. I hope I can do that one day this week.
Hubby spent almost all his free time off this weekend wrestling with a new TV. Our TV in the living room just suddenly gave up the ghost last Sunday. It worked fine that morning, but nothing happened when I tried to turn it on that evening. We Googled and YouTubed and tried everything, but nothing worked. I was a little outraged because it was only four years old!
Hubby decided to buy a new one, and he went up in size. I told him to make sure he measured it and was sure it would fit on our TV stand, but when he got it home, it was too wide. So, back we both went to Walmart to see about TV stands. The prettiest one was out of stock, and the only other option was not something I was willing to spend $200 on that didn’t match or come close to matching our other tables. I had given up hope, but Hubby ended up finding a TV stand base that is absolutely perfect! And the best part is we didn’t have to buy a new piece of furniture! Problem solved!
That’s all I can think of today. Hope you all have a great one!

Hope your mom’s appointment went well. How interesting to find those mounds! I hope you are able to visit them again and explore a bit more.
Congratulations to your son on getting all those scholarships! How wonderful is that?
Your lunch while being out with your friends looks delicious! Now I’m craving a hamburger and I’d want fries with mine, not something as healthy as broccoli salad! LOL.

Congrats to the Teen on the scholarships!
It’s supposed to be warmer here this week, and I’m happy about that. I’m not ready for the BER months. 🙂

Fall weather has arrived here, too. It’s cold…and I am not a fan. Of course, I live in an area where it’s cold most of the year. Even in summer the temps are mostly in the 80s, so it lovely to be outside. College is a huge transition, it can be really tough for some kids. Glad to hear your son is enjoying it and getting money! That’s a double win!
