We have a senior in the house! Back to School for the Teen kicked off last Wednesday, and it seems like it has been a whirlwind ever since. I’m currently typing this on a Saturday at almost midnight. I had a huge nap this afternoon, and I guess I will be awake for a while. Oops! I guess now is a good time to catch up on my blog reading and blog posting. I had over 250 blog posts in my feed reader waiting on me!
Senior Breakfast
The Teen had to be at Senior Breakfast bright and early at 7:00 AM on Wednesday morning. I ensured I was up by 5 AM to get myself showered so I could eat breakfast before we left. My breakfast never happened, so I also couldn’t take my heart medication until I ate, which ended up after 8:00 AM. I will never make THAT mistake again. Those three hours of getting ready, standing up at breakfast for almost an hour, and walking a little from our car to the host’s house (parking was busy that morning on their street!) without being medicated were not good for me. I paid dearly for it the rest of the day and the next day.
But I digress.
We made breakfast on time; the Teen dressed in his senior jersey, which he was not a fan of!
He tried so hard to get out of wearing it, but I told him everyone was expected to wear them and so he HAD to wear it. I sort of don’t blame him, though. These jerseys are 100% polyester, and I hate polyester. It’s hot. It feels weird.
The class had their last names on the back of their jersey, and the 24 is for the year they graduate…2024.
Class Picture
Just as the kids were finishing breakfast and about to head outside to take a picture in front of the festive yard decoration with their school colors, it started to rain gently. Thankfully, it didn’t last but a few minutes, and so they all headed out front to get a quick picture in before it was time to head to school.
The Jersey Strikes Back
The Teen made it through orientation Wednesday, and school started on Thursday. Guess what he had to wear AGAIN? Yep, the jersey! I had to wash it up Wednesday night to be worn again the next day for Senior Ride-In and the first day of school. The seniors met in a parking lot in town and got a police escort to school Thursday morning. When they arrived at school, they did a Senior Walk down the halls, and the other students clapped and cheered for them on their last first day.
The Teen seems happy with his classes this year and even gets to leave early on certain days because he doesn’t have a class during the last period. He is excited about getting to come home early. I’m excited about not having to do an afternoon carpool line on those days! Carpool line during the first few weeks of school is just crazy town!
I know y’all will get so sick of me telling you how I can’t believe he is a senior, but I really, really can’t. These 18 years with him have just flown by. It seems long and hard when you are down in the trenches of motherhood…the sleepless nights, the colic, the having to remember every little detail for every little thing…school stuff, morning logistics, keeping it all going. And then suddenly, you look up, and you have a senior in high school.

Wow, your son’s school made quite an event of the first day of senior year! My daughter’s school didn’t do anything like that! Maybe because she went to a public school. 🙂 Hope your son has a great year!

Oh I so relate to this Mandy! My senior started this AM with an agreed upon by the class – senior sunrise at 5:30 AM! And then they have a team bonding day at school. Her first full day is tomorrow. But it’s such a bittersweet time, isn’t it? We want them to become independent and spread their wings. But the day comes and it hurts a little. Okay, a lot. Hugs to you fellow Mama!
The senior pic was such a great idea and sure turned into an epic photo!!

I totally understand your feelings on “how did this happen?” I now have a 40 year old, and I’m watching my grandkids grow too fast.
I wouldn’t want to wear the jersey either, but it did make a nice class picture with everyone wearing it.
I hope he enjoys his senior year!

Thank you, Mari! It really does go fast! Some of my friends are just becoming grandparents now and it floors me how I am old enough to be a grandparent! LOL!

It will continue to be a busy year if it’s anything like when my kids were seniors. Have fun!

Yes, it has already ramped up! Here we go! Haha!
