We Had a Storm

Happy Wednesday!  Wow, this week is going by so fast!  I’m having a hard time getting it together this week.  I think having a Monday holiday always throws me off.  However, I was glad for a long weekend for my hubby.  He was able to have Monday off, and that’s a rare thing.  But sadly, he didn’t really get to relax because we had a storm blow in Sunday evening that left us with a lot of cleanup!

Our Bradford Pear tree fell victim to the storm.  Poor hubby had spent all of Saturday morning pruning this tree back off the fence because it was growing down and out into our neighbor’s yard.  He and the Young Man worked very hard, carrying many limbs to the front yard for pickup.  Then, Sunday evening, 60-70 mph winds roared through and knocked this huge branch onto the fence.

And the view from our neighbor’s backyard:

The fence is ours, and it was damaged. A branch broke off a piece of the neighbor’s little table at the edge of the fence.  With the chainsaw, Hubby was up bright and early (6 AM), getting it all cleared out in our yards.  The neighbor wasn’t home, but she returned later in the day, so hubby went over to tell her what had happened.  I don’t think she was happy that some stray leaves were left in her yard.  However, her yard service can easily run over this, and it will be gone.  It was pouring rain the entire time hubby worked, even when he went to speak with her.  It rained all day up until Monday evening.  Hubby had done all he could in such terrible weather, and all by himself.  I was so appreciative of him and so proud of how he is such a hard worker.  When he is determined to get something done, he gets it done!

Young Man and I went to the duck pond in our neighborhood last Wednesday.  We had been cooped up in the house for a few days, so we decided to go see the ducks!  They were happy to see us and even happier to get the crackers we gave them.  When we ran out, the geese started to get a little aggressive, so we hitailed it to the pier to look out on the pond.  That’s when we saw a huge snake swimming by below us.  We saw lots of turtles, too.  It was a little hot that day, but we enjoyed it, and it was a change of scenery.  I also used my Merlin app while we were at the pond and was able to pick up some different birds there.

Afterward, we went to the local ice cream shop and got ice cream.  I got their smallest cup, and I could only eat three bites.  This Mounjaro is really curbing my appetite!  Y’all know I love me some ice cream.  I mean, it wasn’t long ago that I finished this in one sitting!  And now?  I could never!

We went to church on Sunday, and I just had to take a picture of this orange lily in the landscaping around the church sign.  Isn’t it gorgeous?

The birding has been fabulous as usual! I’m always happy to see “Cardinal St. Francis”.

And Mocky sure did seem to be giving me a very dirty look while waiting for his dry cat food!

mad mocking bird

I’m not even kidding. This mockingbird prefers to eat dry cat food over the nice bird seed I throw out for the birds!  He will stand and wait for you to get some if none is available for him.  The nerve!!

Nothing much else is going on, just waiting for things to dry out.  Hope everyone out there is doing well!

Sorry to read about the storm and the damage to your pear tree and the fence. At least your husband was there and he could get it cleared up. Loved reading about the visit to the pond and feeding the ducks. I have several birds in my backyard that feed on the kibble I put out for the garden cats. I don’t set out bird seeds because I don’t want to encourage any birds due to the cats, but, the birds don’t seem to mind the cats and the cats just look at the birds and don’t do anything!

Yikes, seems like a lot of storms are causing trouble this season. I hope that was the last of the big ones for you. Your bird photos are beautiful! We’ve been seeing so many baby geese and swans this week. The swans are like tiny furry marshmallows. You can’t get too close without mama getting very upset, but they are adorable!

We could use some rain, but not a storm like that! We enjoy feeding ducks and geese when we get the opportunity, but you are right about them getting aggressive!

Glad it was the fence and not a house. Thunderstorms can be a mess too especially in the south. Glad the meds are helping. Good catching up.

Oh my goodness! That poor tree…but especially your poor Hubby. All that work! ::sigh::
Hopefully the weather stays much calmer now. Feel free to keep the wind but please send rain our way – we could sure use it! 🙂
I need to look into that Merlin app – I love trying to identify the birds now too. Looks like it was such a lovely day by the pond. And yay for the med helping you with appetite. That’s awesome!!
Blessings on your weekend ahead. xo

Love the bird feeder/picnic table! Adorable. Sorry about the storm & extra work, but so nice DH was able to clean it up and get everything taken care of!

Bradford pears are famous for splitting. We have had three different ones split enough that we had to take the rest of them down. I was sad each time.

There are several Bradford Pears in my area around my apartment complex and last year we had a bad windstorm that took a couple down. I understand they are rather fragile but they sure are pretty.
I’m hoping that your neighbor can cope with a few leaves in her yard. 🙂
Love the duck photos and the red cardinal is beautiful!

Sorry about the tree – and the neighbor! Dang, upset over a few leaves, she doesn’t sound very nice.
That bird does look angry – almost like it has its hands on its hips and glaring at you!! LOL

I’m so sorry about the tree and all the work it caused. Good for your hubby and son.
I like seeing the ducks too and the mockingbird is pretty funny!

So sorry you were dealing with storm damage. We had a few days of storms as well. Our neighbor had a huge branch fall on their roof which they covered with a tarp. Another neighbor had a huge tree limb fall in our backyard. He hasn’t attempted to cut it down/up. This is the same neighbor we had to call the city on because his grass was over knee high. We live on a main street and it looked horrible. Love the pictures of the birds!

These storms have been fierce! I know we will all be glad to have a break from the rain. Enjoy the rest of your week!
