I feel like this post will be an update overload. Debating whether I should split it into two parts, haha! I can’t believe I let more than two weeks go by without posting here. I have lots of excuses… the gorgeous weather, my lack of focus on pretty much anything lately, and life in general. Nothing serious, thankfully.
Of course, we start with the Easter Beanie Babies, because, of course!!
Speaking of the lack of focus, my hubby had to remind me I needed to put up the St. Patrick’s Day bears and put the Easter ones out. I don’t know why I have been so dazed and confused. I’ll just blame it on the birds!
I’ll go ahead and start by apologizing for this terrible photo quality, but I nearly jumped out of my skin with excitement when I caught this summer tanager on the cat’s water bowl outside the other day! I have never in my fifty years seen this bird! I kept hearing the sound of it on my Merlin Bird ID app, but figured the app was picking up the sound of another bird and mistakenly identifying it as a tanager. But nope! I was walking past our back living room and looked out to see this! I had to grab my phone and zoom in as much as I could.
My app has been picking up a lot of new birds! I guess migration season is in full swing. A couple of weeks ago, I saw my first indigo bunting! Each morning brings a new sound. I love sitting on my patio, holding Beetle (our outdoor kitty), and listening to the birds while the sun comes up. We feed them birdseed and put out corn for the squirrels. Hubby was able to get me a second squirrel cafe feeder this weekend from his friend, who does woodworking. We got it hung up, although not perfectly, because the tree has a curve to it, and the squirrels are loving this feeder as well!
And here is hubby spraying down around the sliding glass doors out back!
Speaking of Beetle, he tries so hard to be friends with Jake (our orange cat), but Jake is not having any of it! Jake likes to be left alone, and Beetle is just a little too much for him, being just over a year old. But I caught them sort of sitting together outside the other evening. Maybe in time, Jake will accept him more.
Hubby and I went to the library book sale last Friday to pick up some very bargain books! The library has a book sale a few times a year, and you can get as many books as you want for a donation to the Friends of the Library fund. I ended up with a big stack that I can’t wait to dive into! Afterward, we went out and had Mexican for lunch. I got my favorite boiled shrimp and a potato fajita.
I also popped into Tractor Supply a couple of weeks ago to pick up some shirts I love, and just had to go and see if they had baby chicks! No baby chicks in stock, but they did have these sweet baby ducks! Aren’t they precious?
I could have sat there and watched them all day long!
And my rose bush is showing out! It hasn’t produced any roses in the last couple of years, and I was just about to ask hubby to cut it down, but I looked out one day and saw it starting to bloom! Since I took this picture, another rose has bloomed! I’m so excited to see them again!
And here I am at my endocrinologist appointment last week! (Excuse my nerd reading glasses, haha!)
Sad to say, my A1c was not good, sitting at 8 this time. I think it was 7 on my last visit. All of my other levels looked fine, which was a relief! But my endocrinologist has strongly suggested I try a GLP-1 prescription to get control of my blood sugar levels and help me to lose weight. With my diabetes, it doesn’t matter how clean I eat, it feels like I am ALWAYS hungry. I tried Ozempic a few years ago, and was able to lose 15 pounds, but when my dose was increased, I got extremely sick, and it scared me from retaking it.
This time, the doctor wants me to try Mounjaro, which she says is easier to tolerate than Ozempic. My doctor told me she used to weigh over 265 pounds, and she lost over 100 pounds with Mounjaro! WHAT?!? I couldn’t believe it! She is so thin and healthy-looking that I never would have suspected she had a weight problem. I have been a total chicken about trying this medicine. It has been sitting in my refrigerator since last week. I have decided to give it a try after my son finishes school, so in about three weeks. I can’t afford to be sick/nauseated, etc., until he is finished because he depends on me to get him to the bus and back each day.
I just know I am tired of feeling bad. I think my foot issues are due to the extra weight I carry. I tire out easily from my heart anyway, so being overweight does NOT help my overall health. Have you ever tried to find plus-size clothes that look decent on you when you’re 4 feet 11 inches tall? Haha! Nothing looks right on me because I’m not supposed to be this big for my height. And getting better control over my blood glucose level is everything! It just went off the charts after my heart surgery years ago and hasn’t been good since.
But otherwise, the weather has been so pretty here! I’ve been sitting outside on the patio so much lately, listening to the birds and reading. And that’s why I blame the birds for not posting, because birdwatching has really made me slow down and take in the beauty all around me, and be so thankful for my life and everything in it. And that’s not a bad thing!
We have finally finished all doctor appointments for my mother and me until June and July, so I’m thankful for that as well! My son has about three more weeks until final exams, and we are looking forward to the slower pace of summer.
And that’s about it for this post! I hope everyone is doing well!
Hello dear Friend!

I’m so sorry I missed this post somehow.
What a lovely yard and I LOVE the birds. Such lovely signs of Spring.
You are adorable and I love the glasses! I am on a health journey and I tried one of the meds but I didn’t tolerate it well – but I’m thankful I also don’t have diabetic issues. I just want to lose more weight because it helps my arthritis with less weight on my back and hips. So I’m with you Sister on this health journey. I pray that the new med will work well and give you the results you seek to feel good!! I think if we don’t focus on things being a “diet” but a lifestyle and just wanting to be healthier…it can make all the difference. Feel free to email me or chat anytime if you need to vent or share. We can be in this together! I pray 2025 is a health blessing for us both.
It is always exciting seeing a new bird species for the first time! I wish I would have created a log years ago of my bird sightings.
I’ve been taking a bit of an unintended break myself lately. Like you, all I can say, is blame it on the weather…and the birds. We have had so many unusual ones at the beach lately. I sit down to write a post and find myself googling the birds instead!! It’s a fun hobby for sure!! Love the picture of you, always fun to see blogging friends faces!!
How nice to read your update! Sounds like you are having fun birdwatching. I do hope that you are able to bring your A1c level under control with the new medication and there are no side effects.
Happy Easter to you and your family, Mandy.
It is nice to see an update from you. I fully understand about finding clothes –I am 5’1. Wishing you a beautiful Easter my friend.
Well I love your birds and the rose. Bird watching is one of my favorite things. I have never seen the bird either. I would have been totally exited as well. Good luck with the medication. I understand the being scared. Hopefully it will help without the sick feeling.
You have a really nice yard, no wonder you have all those birds! I’ve never seen a tanager, but the indigo buntings are gorgeous!
Your glasses are cute! I have a feeling your clothes look better on you than you think, but as someone who’s dealt with weight issues forever, I get it! I hope the medicine works and doesn’t have side effects!
Wow, a summer tanager and an indigo bunting! I’m jealous. I need to try that bird song app. Maybe there is more of a variety of birds around than I think.
Good luck with your new medicine. I totally understand your reluctance to try it, but it sounds like it’s necessary. BTW, I like your “nerdy” glasses.
