Spread the love

Good Monday morning!  I hope your weekend was wonderful.  Ours was laid back and quiet.  The weather was a little rainy and blah.  We stayed home.  I did a little laundry, tried a couple of new recipes, and read a whole bunch!

I didn’t get to post much last week, so I’ll back up and catch you up a bit.  On Tuesday, my aunts on my daddy’s side wanted to take my mom out for her birthday.  Mama’s birthday is in December, but with the holiday craziness, they usually wait until January to do lunch.  I joined them this time, and we decided to try a new restaurant called 301 Downtown.  They serve pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and pasta.    I have never been to 301, so I was glad to go along.  The restaurant was really spacious, and I absolutely fell in love with the oyster shell chandeliers!

I ordered the Italian sandwich, and it proved to be delicious.  I am a huge fan of homemade fries/chips.

They were soooo good, and it was so much food that I took the other half home for lunch the next day.  The waitress was super sweet as well.  We had a great visit with my aunts, and it was just a fun outing that I sure did need.

On Friday evening, I decided to try a recipe I found online for Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken.  I don’t use my crockpot as much as I should, so I decided to try it.  Hubby helped by whipping up this Chicken Fried Rice to go along with it.  I also even tried my hand at an Egg Drop Soup.

Well, the Teriyaki Chicken was just ok.  Very tangy.  The rice was super delicious!  We didn’t add the chicken since we had the crockpot chicken.  The soup was a complete bust!  It just didn’t have the same consistency or taste as my favorite Chinese restaurant, so I didn’t even eat a couple of bites.

Saturday night, hubby did a roast, which was delicious, as always!

Reading

This weekend, I finished two books from the Cliffside Point series on my Kindle Paperwhite.  The first book was a freebie, but I loved it so much that I immediately purchased the next one in the series for 99 cents!  Two fantastic books, and all for a dollar!

light romance book

This was a new-to-me author, and I can’t wait to dig into the next installment!  I highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a light read with friendships and romance!  It’s sooo good!  And that’s saying something because I usually don’t go for romance books at all.

This Week

I have several phone calls to make this morning, and we still don’t have our plumbing issue from last week resolved, so I hope things will move along this week.  Other than that, just the usual routine!

Well done with trying out new recipes. Sometimes they work and other times, not! I have an old crockpot (probably considered vintage by now, because it was from the late 1970s and in Avocado green!); it’s difficult to wash because the liner doesn’t come out. As a result, I rarely use it!

First, good for you for trying new recipes for dinner! You never know if you don’t try, right? That’s one of my mottos in life. I love restaurants like the one you went to with your mom and aunt- and those oyster shell chandeliers are pretty! I love details like that in places I eat. Thank you for the book rec! I just added the first one to my Kindle. I’ll be sharing a post on my blog next week about the books I read this month. I’ve been more into nonfiction than fiction this month, but I’m reading one that is really good right now. I hope you have a great Tuesday, friend!

Happy belated birthday to your mum! You’re right those oyster chandeliers do look amazing. I love all your food pics, they look really delicious. I haven’t made teriyaki chicken before but my family loves teriyaki salmon. So we have that often. I usually make my own teriyaki sauce but the other day when I went to make the teriyaki salmon. I saw that we had run out of mirin. So I went to the corner store to buy some but all they had was bottled teriyaki sauce. I ended up buying it and when I got home and tasted it, it was tangy. So I added some brown sugar (not very healthy, but very tasty). In the end, nobody noticed that it wasn’t a homemade sauce!😃

What a bummer to go to the effort to make that soup and it didn’t turn out. 🙁
I’m saving that book series, sounds good!
