Welcome into the week so far in my world! I thought I’d share a picture of the poinsettia plant my mom bought for us this Christmas season.
I decided to put it on the table in our little foyer entrance. You know I had to add in a couple of Christmas Beanie Babies! Haha! I was trying to find a spot where Jake wouldn’t be curious about the plant since poinsettias are not good for cats!
I also broke out a holiday candle! It’s Yankee Candle’s Candy Cane Lane. I purchased this from eBay last year because I *think* it’s a retired scent. I had a large jar last year that I finally used up, and it smelled so amazing I wanted more! But I could only find them on eBay. But the larger jar is available at Amazon as well. It smells like hot chocolate and peppermint. It turns out this smaller size is just perfect for a holiday season. I purchased a smaller jar candle for the fall that I just used up, so no having to store away a million candles.
The Week So Far
Hubby left for work Monday afternoon, so I’ve been occupied with little organizational projects around the house. I did get into our wrapping paper storage bins and clean them out well, get rid of paper scraps and smooshed bows, do some consolidating, etc. I got that all cleaned up and ready for gift wrapping.
My cousins and I started reading a chapter of Luke each day, beginning on December 1, which takes you through the birth, life, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus. I’m glad we’ve started it and are good about reminding one another.
I’ve been helping my mom decorate her home for this weekend’s family Christmas celebration. I mostly just put things where she tells me to, haha! She, my aunt, and I got a pretty good bit done yesterday. I’ll be heading back again this morning and on Friday to make sure she’s all ready. I’m looking forward to seeing my maternal side of the family and glad we could find a weekend to make it work for everyone.
Getting Excited About the New Year
I don’t know why I’ve been excited about a new year ahead, but I have been! I know I always make resolutions I never stick with, so I’ve decided I probably shouldn’t make any for next year. Maybe goals should be the better word? Or maybe just aspirations?? Haha! I mean, I obviously want to see forward momentum in my life. I feel like I’m being nudged to move in a specific direction for next year, and I’ll probably blog more in-depth about that closer to the new year.
Calm Evenings
I’ve also been spending evenings listening to beautiful ambient music videos on YouTube while playing games or reading on my iPad. Here is one of my and Jake’s current favorites:
I hope your week has been great so far. I’m catching up on my blog reading and enjoying seeing what everyone has been up to so far this month!

I love Christmas candles. I’ve been burning a balsam and cedar one.
Your poinsetta looks pretty!
I’m also reading Luke right now.
I like the video!

I thought I had a balsam and cedar one put away for this year, but I must have used it last year. It’s one of my favorite scents as well! So far the poinsettia is holding up, but I almost killed it by forgetting to water it! Oops! Haha!

We got our tree up on Tuesday, and I am really enjoying the lights, too. The video you shared is indeed very calm. We never play anything like that, but I should look into it.

These videos are so relaxing! I used to pull up similar ones for my students when I worked as a librarian. They loved coming in each day to see what video would be playing. There are so many calming videos with amazing backgrounds, like huge saltwater aquariums filled with gorgeous sea creatures. I always had the volume very low or turned off.
