Oh, my word! We are finally starting the thawing out from the ice storm process!  It is going very, very slowly.  This was my backyard yesterday morning:

And this has been me basically all week!  Haha!!

We got all of this last Sunday evening/Monday, so I have been cooped up in the house for an entire week, save for walking around the backyard a little bit.  I do have to get out and take the Teen to school this morning.  He got an entire week off from school!  When this started, we just assumed he would be home on Monday (which he was, because school was out for MLK Day) and he would be back in school on Tuesday.  However, this thick ice hung around all week because we haven’t been above freezing all week.  It finally warmed to 35 today, and we saw a little more thawing.  The roads are clear, but the sides of the streets are still thick with ice.  We are going to have to drive with caution today!

Thawing Out From the Ice Storm

I am so happy to report all of our utilities held up during this ice storm.  I had to leave all of our faucets dripping and open up the cabinet doors where the sinks were to keep the pipes warm.   We kept our electricity and water, and our only mishap was when I tried to wash clothes on Tuesday and flooded our entire laundry room!  Hubby was on the road, and I just wanted to cry.  Thank goodness we have a door to the outside of our house in the laundry room.  I just opened the door, swept out the water, and let the floor dry on its own.  I’ll have to do some proper mopping in there this week.  However, by Friday, things were thawing ever so slightly, so hubby went outside and poured some hot water into the pipe, and I was able to wash clothes!  That’s all I did all day and evening Friday.  I had already washed everything on Sunday before the storm hit, but it was starting to pile up again.

Hubby Made It Home

Hubby made it home Wednesday, and I was so relieved.  I just feel better having him around when the weather gets bad like this.  He got to the store Thursday to grab a couple of things.  We didn’t need much at all and thank goodness for that because our stores were almost wiped clean of food items, and the trucks to restock the shelves didn’t start rolling into town until Saturday.  We also had no mail delivery or garbage pickup all week!  It’s like time literally stopped this past week.

The Teen and Hubby were able to get out Saturday and get haircuts, so I started cleaning the house.  I got all of the downstairs dusted and vacuumed, and I had done the upstairs the day before.  All bathrooms are clean.  I even set out the winter Beanie Babies on the mantle!

The Week Ahead

Needless to say, we had to reschedule my mom’s heart catheterization appointment for next week. It turns out the office was closed anyway due to the weather when she tried to cancel on Tuesday. So, we have another week to wait. The weather should be much warmer by then! I’m anxious to see my mama this week! We have been Facetiming each other, and hubby and the Teen have been over to shovel the ice off her porch and walkway and bring the things she needs. Her walkway is still very icy, so it may be Tuesday before I can see her in person. I’m so thankful for modern technology so that we can text and call!

It’s looking like the rain will roll in late tonight and stick around until Saturday. However, it will be much warmer, and I will take that any day over this bitter cold! Hubby is craving chocolate cake, so I’ll be working on that today while the Teen is at school.  While I have so enjoyed having my little family home to weather this winter storm, I guess it’s time to return to reality again!

Unfortunately, the treatment for the mother had to be postponed due to the weather. Brrr… so it was quite tough for you, this wintry weather. I hope it becomes milder now. Oh, and I really find those little bears adorable. And your second pic made me smile…

Our weeks were so similar! I think it will be next week before we all feel a little back to normal when grocery stores are re-stocked and mail and garbage has resumed. Now to deal with the rain, but at least it is above freezing finally! It is always good to have someone around when the cold weather hits.

Yes, it does sound like we had the exact same week! Haha! I’m happy to report it has almost all melted now! I hope we don’t see anymore ice this year!

Kind of the same weather except we didn’t have ice. Just real cold and about 2″ of snow one night. Rain starts tonight for the rest of the week and warmer! YAY
I know you had to be happy when hubs got home safely. Take care.

I am always so glad to see him get home safely. I worry about him a lot when he is on the road. We are getting rain, too, but I’d much rather have that than the ice we had. And yay for warming up!

Ugh, this weather has just been the worst…I’ve been stuck in the house, too. I hate the cold, ice and frigid temperatures. It’s supposed to warm up this week and I cannot wait! I hope you melt soon, too!! Hahaha!!

Your weather sounds similar to ours, except you are a day or two ahead of us. I remember living in warmer climates with no basements and having to drip our faucets, etc. Usually, freezing pipes were not a problem, but when it was…! I’m glad things got straightened out, and you can do laundry again. Be careful out there as you venture out again.

Thanks so much! Yes, the constant dripping sound was getting a little annoying! Haha! I had to turn the faucet to the side so it would rip in the side of the sink and minimize the sound of it. It’s all over now, thank goodness!
