Good afternoon! I thought I would do a Sunday check-in and update you on my mom. We had to get up super early on Thursday morning and leave about 5:30 AM to make it to her check-in by 8:30. It’s a two-hour drive, and we have to allow time to stop for bathroom breaks. We made good time and The Teen and I settled in the waiting room.
Hospital Check-In
On a side note, isn’t it sad when a hospital has to have this huge display in the waiting area?
I am happy to report that she did great during her heart catheterization! They got her in fairly quickly after checking in, and she was finished in about thirty minutes. The longest part was waiting a few hours in the recovery room to make sure she was doing well. The doctor saw no major blockage, and her bypass grafts still looked great! So, our next stop will be seeing the surgeon next week, who will perform her TAVR procedure to get that set up.
I am so thankful she did well, but it was a rough trip. We had already made that two-hour trek to the hospital on Monday of last week, and my hips hurt badly by the time we got home. I don’t do well on long car rides anymore. By the time we got home Thursday, it was really, really bad. The Teen and I had to walk a lot and a long way around the hospital. Because we were in my car, we didn’t have my mom’s handicap tag, so I had to park a little way out in the hospital’s parking lot. We just dropped Mama off at the door, and The Teen pushed her in a wheelchair where she needed to go. By the time we got home that evening, I was in tears from the pain. I took a couple of Tylenol and hit the bed at about 8:30 PM. Thankfully, the hubby was on his way home that evening, and I finally saw him when I woke up Friday morning! Haha!
Hubby was able to take Mama some breakfast Friday morning and checked on her throughout the day. I was ever so thankful, as I was in rough shape. I didn’t do a thing around the house Friday except sit and sleep. It’s now Sunday, and I’m still moving slowly, but I’m thankful I have a little more than a week to prepare for another road trip.
The Week Ahead
This week will be much calmer, thank goodness! I do have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday to see my primary care doctor. It’s time to update him on some things and get a little checkup. I’ll check in on Mama and ferry The Teen back and forth from school. I’m praying he won’t have a lot of work to make up this week. He is such a huge help to me in getting Mama where she needs to go, and I don’t know what I would do without him, but I hate he has to miss school.
Speaking of The Teen, he has a birthday this week! He will turn 19 on Saturday. I can’t believe it. I have been looking over his pictures from when he was a baby and growing up. I must choose a few for the senior slide show they will present at his Senior Awards night in May. It’s so hard to narrow it down!
I hope your Sunday is going well! I’ll be back this week!

So glad your mom’s procedure went well and your son was there to help you. Sorry you were in pain, afterwards. Hope you feel better now and your own doctor’s visit went well.

I agree with Elle. That sign is very needed. It’s not just the patients, it’s family members as well. It can be scary.
So glad that procedure is done and she is doing well. I’m sorry you had such pain after that, but thankfully your son is a great help. Happy Birthday to him!
PS – lately I’m not getting notice of posts. Not just yours, this happens with others too. I see you posted this yesterday and it just showed up for me tonight. So frustrating!

Glad it was a good visit for your mom, but sorry it was such a tiring day for you. Enjoy your son’s birthday week! Today is my daughter’s 23rd birthday. The time goes by so fast.

So glad your mom is doing well and 19? Goodness that went fast. I feel like your son just entered high school!! Happy Birthday to him!! I hope you feel better and rested. We took a trip this weekend – 3 hours there and 3 hours back in one day. I get it, it was rough.

The good news is that your mother’s procedure went well. The bad news is that you suffered so afterwards. Hope you can get back to normal this week.

Thank you! I pray so, too! I have so much to do and hate being put out of service! Haha!

As a RN, I can tell that sign is VERY necessary. We are shot (1 recently immediately died), we are picked up and thrown (a pregnant unit clerk who thankfully, did not lose the baby), we are slugged, we are kicked hard enough to break bones. And then there is the verbal abuse. It is horrible how we who are there to help, are abused. We’ve actually fought hard to have Laws put in place making it assault and battery of healthcare personnel a Felony. Yes, it’s that bad.
Mandy says
Oh, Elle. That is horrible! No one should ever verbally or physically abuse anyone, let alone those trying to help them. It’s just a shame a sign like that is necessary. Praying for your safety at work. Thank you for being a helper, one that is so desperately needed these days!
