Spring Break 2023

Spring Break 2023 is officially in the books!  Not that we did anything terribly exciting.  The weather was just super rainy and cold here.  We planned an excursion requiring a few hours of outside time, but we decided to postpone that until the weather warms up.  So, we made the best of it by doing a few things around town and enjoying our downtime at home.

Let’s Get This Party Started

The Teen and I kicked off Spring Break after school by stopping in at Delta Dairy.  It’s an adorable frozen yogurt/ice cream shop downtown with a long bar of toppings to add to your frozen treat of choice.  I may have gone a little overboard with the toppings.  You can’t help yourself…there are so many, and they are so tempting!  It was delicious, and although I probably shouldn’t have done it, I have zero regrets.

Cardiologist Check-Up

I also had to knock out one of my bi-annual cardiologist appointments. I’m so grateful that the heart doctors I see come to the next town from us; otherwise, I’d have to drive two hours for my appointments. The appointment went okay, but he stressed his concern about my weight and encouraged me to move more. I know I need to do it. My stamina is just not very great. It’s something I will have to push through.   Clearly, those ice cream trips aren’t helping things.  I have to go back for my next checkup in September.

Enjoying Hubby’s Cooking

My husband also took last week off to spend more time with us, and he took over all of the nightly meals.  He loves to cook.  One night he made this chicken and rice dish that was absolutely delicious!

It was nice not to have to worry about meal planning and cooking.  I did the kitchen clean-up and tried to do my fair share.  When it comes to domestic chores, I love cleaning more than I do cooking.  So, when hubby is home, we make a great team!

Doing Puzzles

While my guys vegged out in front of the TV, watching movies just about every night, I went to my puzzle table and managed to finish up two puzzles.  I got this Pac-Man puzzle just for fun.  It was just a nostalgic purchase for me!

Pac Man Puzzles

I remember being about seven years old and getting an Atari and the Pac-Man game for Christmas.  I was obsessed with anything PacMan back then!  This was a fun puzzle, and I liked that the pieces were larger and more sturdy.

The big puzzle I completed was this Buffalo Games Antique Map puzzle.

This one was 1000 pieces, and I wasn’t as impressed with the quality, even though both of these puzzles were made by the same company, Buffalo Games.  This puzzle was new in the box, but it seems as if the production machine didn’t quite cut some of the pieces very well.  This puzzle was a challenge!  Because so many pieces of the actual map part looked so much alike, there were several times I just had to walk away and take a break before frustration set in.  Haha!

I promise the colors on these puzzles are more brilliant than what you see here.  My puzzle table is near a window, so I feel like the natural lighting overpowers the color. I also run the pictures of my completed puzzle through a background remover, so you only see the puzzle.  But you can click the links above if you’d like to see a better picture.

And Other Things…

The Teen and hubby stopped in the local bookstore to get the Teen his next installment in a series he is reading.  We went out to lunch with my mom on Friday.  But we had to say goodbye to my cousin’s husband on Saturday.  He passed away this last week, and his memorial service was Saturday morning.  He was a barber and very well-known throughout our community, and he was also the official turkey roaster for our Thanksgiving dinners.  He married my cousin when I was about ten years old (my cousin was in her mid-twenties when they married), and can you even guess where they got married?  In his barbershop!  It was the most unique wedding I’ve ever been to, and he also gave The Teen his first haircut when he was a very little guy.  He was so fun-loving and a jokester; there will certainly be a void left in our family gatherings now.

Back To Reality

And now our Spring Break week is over.  This week will be putting the house back together with some cleaning and a dental appointment to look forward to on Thursday.  I hope you have a great start to your week!

Both of those puzzles look fun! I had to give up on the Lost puzzle I’d been working on. It was just too frustrating! It had about a billion small pics from the show all mixed into one big pic. I packed that one up and grabbed a smaller, easier one but have not started it yet. I’m feeling an urge to switch to coloring for a while.

That chicken dinner looks so yummy!
