Good morning!  Checking in with the Southern Winter Storm Tuesday update!  We have made it through another day and night of frigid temps and sleet/snow.  All in all, I think we only got about two inches, with the majority of it being ice.  I saw tiny snowflakes late yesterday afternoon.  Then, it stopped and the winds kicked up!  Right now, it’s 12 degrees, and the sun is out, but nothing much is melting because we are still below freezing.  The Teen got another day at home from school!

I ventured out to take out a bag of garbage and check the mail. We had no mail, so I’m not even sure it came yesterday. I took a couple of pictures.

icy street

Our street looks like it is covered in snow, but it’s a solid sheet of ice.  With temps not rising above freezing, I don’t know when this will ever melt away.

Staying Warm

One of our favorite ways to stay warm is having a nice cup of hot chocolate!  We’ve been drinking so much of this.  I’m glad I bought a big box of it before the storm hit.

I usually wait until late afternoon to fire up the kettle.  Hubby prefers to heat his water faster in the microwave, but I love the Mr. Coffee kettle I use on the stovetop.

Animals in the Cold Temps

I’m happy to report my outside stray kitties are doing so well through this mess.  I have to go outside every few hours and grab their water bowl, take it inside, melt off the ice, and refill it.  They are hunkering down under our shed (I did have warming boxes out for them), and I’ve been petting one, and he is warm to the touch.  I’ve seen them all, and they are out playing in the ice/snow and having fun.

I’ve also been feeding the birds.  I have seen so many more of them than I normally see, and they are all puffed up and looking for food.  I have a bird feeder outside, but they don’t use it!  I think I’m going to take it down and scatter the seed.  I have been feeding them some bread in the meantime.

Other Cancellations

My mom and I have decided to reschedule her heart catheterization appointment that she was to go to on Thursday.  The hospital is a two-hour drive away, and with our roads looking like this and more to come Thursday morning, traveling would not be a safe move.  She tried to call to reschedule today, but their office is closed because of the weather, so she may have been rescheduled anyway.

So, yeah, more of the same here.  That’s my southern winter storm update.  I wish I had more interesting things to report, but we are just cooped up in the house.  I’ve been going through emails this morning and started the dishwasher.  I’m having lunch right now and will probably take a little afternoon nap.  How are things where you are?

She did get rescheduled! It was just too dangerous to make that trip! And yes, the hot chocolate has been so wonderful during this cold week!

Being in Memphis, we had 6 inches of snow Monday! Yesterday, the roads became icier as the snow compacted and temps are not above freezing yet. It is beautiful, but I am ready for the roads to clear. Sounds like a safe decision to not travel for the medical procedure. Hopefully they can reschedule her soon. Stay safe and warm!

I have been seeing Memphis on the news and such…what a mess it was there! I do hope things are much better by now. I just can’t believe it hung around this long. It’s been a weird week! Haha!

It’s been quite a winter so far! Snow is one thing but with the ice, it’s treacherous. I think of all the animals outside fending for themselves in this kind of weather. Thank you for caring for those cats. My daughter-in-law has a few she feeds as well. I don’t expect our snow is leaving any time soon in E TN either. Hopefully, my next week we have consistently warmer temps. Take care and stay warm.

It was quite a storm system! We still have ground covered in ice. I do love my little stray kitties, and I take care of them the best I can. I’m glad your DIL feeds hers, too! I just love cats!

Icy and snowy here, too, but I live in the northeast, so it’s expected in my neck of the woods. We’re prepared for it even though it’s not pleasant. I can’t imagine being hit with it down south!! Be safe!!

Ice is worse than snow. We’ve had some snow, but it’s cold, so it’s like ice. While it is going to be cold for the next couple of days, we might see a little sunshine tomorrow, which will be quite effective on our black driveway. Glad you’re stocked with hot chocolate. 🙂

No mail yesterday – it was a holiday (MLK). We are at 11 and the sun is shing – my drive is actually melting a little – surprising. Hopefully today is the last ‘worst’ day. Tomorrow in the 20’s – heat wave!!!

    Hi Mandy!
It’s so weird to see all my southern friends suffering through weather we know all too well here in the north. Lol It’s supposed to warm up here by the weekend – I hope that’s the case all over. I’m already dreaming on Spring when it gets so cold like this. Sigh.
I love cocoa and hot tea to stay warm when it’s so frigid outside. Or take a long hot bath. 🙂 I think it was smart to reschedule your Mom’s appt. Stay safe and cozy in the week ahead.
Also, please pop over in the future to enter the blogaversary giveaway I’m doing. I’m so grateful for all of my friends in blogland and want to share the love! Blessings to you. xo
