Slow Weekend

Spread the love

I’m in slow weekend mode this Saturday morning.  I was rudely awakened at 4 AM by Jake, who wanted to go outside.  Ever since the weather has been nicer, he wants to be outside all night and sleep all day.  Reminds me of being a teenager on the weekends.  Going out with friends at night, staying out a little late, and sleeping in all morning.  Not a care about the real world.  Must be nice!  Haha!

Speaking of Jake, here he is trying to be cordial to Beetle.

Beetle just loves Jake and follows him around in the yard, but Jake is a lone-wolf cat.  He doesn’t like Beetle tagging along and prefers solitude.  You can see the disgust on Jake’s face!

Last Friday, my bestie and I attended the visitation for the father of a dear friend of ours.  I was sad to hear he passed away earlier last week, and although she lives a couple of hours away and we don’t see each other much, it’s like no time has passed since the last time we all saw each other.  We were a tight group of 5 friends in high school, so we weren’t going to miss the chance to support her.   She has a twin brother and a younger sister, so we saw many classmates and people from high school.  I hated for this to be the occasion we saw each other again, though.  We are just getting to that age where a lot of us are losing parents, and it is such a tough thing.

Hubby and I also did lunch with my mama and one of her friends that day.  I had BBQ chicken, and it was pretty good.  Then that night, hubby and I went out for Mexican.  We normally don’t eat out that much in one weekend, but I did enjoy it.  We jokingly called these meals our last hoorah before we started our Mounjaro shots on Monday.

Speaking of eating, I did start my Mounjaro shot on Monday.  I think I expressed how scared I was to take it in my last post, but so far things have gone really well.  I’ve actually been having to REMIND myself to eat!  THAT is amazing!  I’ve been tracking my nutritional information in an app and making sure I drink enough water.  I have to say, the results have been amazing!

blood glucose libre

Umm…whose blood sugars are THOSE??? I have never had this much time in range, and I’m so thankful that it seems to be working.  I haven’t had any unpleasant side effects, and I hope the rest of my journey with this medication goes as smoothly.

The backyard birding has been magnificent this week!  I saw three more amazingly beautiful birds, but of course, ones I never could get a clear picture of!  I saw a Purple Martin, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and an Indigo Bunting!  The usual visitors have been plentiful, minus a couple of rainy days.  I love the squirrels, too!

slow weekend

But, the past week has not been without a LOT of sadness. On Thursday, I got the news that two students I had in my library, along with their mother, had been murdered. The eldest girl was set to graduate in a few short weeks, and the other was right behind her. The details are limited since law enforcement is still investigating, but the gunman turned the gun on himself, so that makes four lives senselessly lost. The word is that the gunman was the ex-boyfriend of one of the girls. I have been so heartsick about this.

Friday morning, we also got the news that my husband’s uncle passed away. This is the uncle who raised my husband and is really more like a father to him, since his biological father never played a significant role in his upbringing. Naturally, we were heartbroken about this, too.  Hubby has taken it really hard, and although he had been sick for some time, you’re never really prepared for it.  I will always be grateful that he and his wife took my husband in as a little boy and raised him up to be a fine young man.  Because of Uncle John, my husband had a good example of what being a father is, and that, of course, has influenced how he has been a father to our son.

We did have a good Easter weekend.  We attended church and went out to eat with my aunt and uncle, some church friends, my mom, and a few cousins afterward.  We enjoyed a good meal and a great visit with everyone.  When I was a little girl and until I was 40, we always gathered at my maternal grandmother’s house for Easter, and I miss those days.  I am thankful for the wonderful memories, though.

What are you up to this weekend?  I hope you make it a good one!

    Hello beautiful Friend!
I’m so very sorry for all the loss in your life lately. A close bestie of mine just lost her Dad too. It’s so hard knowing I’m at the age where this is more common with our parents. The cycle of life can be so hard. And how tragic about that shooting. Truly senseless is right. And prayers for your Hubby and his loss. I pray his memories bring him lots of comfort. 🙏🏻
I’m thrilled to hear the injections are working so well for you!! That’s awesome! Cheers to better health ahead. Have a great week. xoxo
