Happy Tuesday! We had a slow weekend around our home. It was quite cloudy, just the perfect weather for staying in and vegging out. I did a few chores I wanted to tackle, but I didn’t push myself too hard. My body needed to rest, so I let it rest as much as I needed to. We had a lot of together time, and although we stayed in and didn’t do much, it was wonderful!
I read quite a bit on my Kindle. I read The Gift of Whispering Pines and finished it by Sunday evening. It was a great book. It had romance and suspense, and it was about a 40-something single mom trying to find her way after life throws her a curveball. I really enjoyed it, and it is FREE on Kindle right now! It’s book one of a series. I’m not sure if I want to delve any further into the series, but this was great as a stand-alone book.
The Teen and Hubby watched a lot of TV. The Teen is on a Miami Vice kick and has ordered the entire series on DVD. Hubby likes it, too. Heck, we all do! Haha! Hubby and I have also been watching That 90’s Show. I never watched That 70’s Show because although I was born in the 70’s, I don’t remember much about it. But I was a young adult in the 90’s, and we enjoy this. Hubby also watched some of the Olympics. We were floored to see that Break Dancing will be an Olympic sport this year! I’ve also been loosely following the Skateboarding team. I am so glad this was added to the lineup!
I have discovered cherries! I am ashamed to say I have never had a “real” cherry! All I have ever known were maraschino cherries. I mean, I know those are cherries, but I purchased a bag of big, beautiful cherries while at Walmart a couple of weeks ago, and I was hooked! The only bad thing is that I have to watch how much I eat because they do run my blood sugar way up. But I am so glad I tried these—they are my new favorite!
Jake…Lordy, this cat! He just loves sleeping during the day. I caught him like this Saturday morning on our bed. Of course, I just let him sleep as long as he wants. He has an appointment with the groomer and vet on Thursday. He is a long-haired cat, and every summer, we have issues with his fur becoming matted. He will NOT let us brush him. He attacks the brush and my hand every time. So, he’s going to the groomer to get those hot spots shaved off. He is due for a flea treatment, so they will also take care of that. I just want him to be comfortable and healthy. I love his little ornery butt! Haha!
Hubby did a lot of cooking this weekend. He loves to cook, and I love to let him! When he comes in during the week, I always have meals prepared for him, but on the weekend, I let him take over the big meals if he wants. He did this chicken Friday night, and it was SO good! He used some rub that he got from a friend. This friend’s mom used to manage the best BBQ restaurant we had in town, but it closed up a long time ago. She still makes the rub and sauces they made at the restaurant, and we love it!
I got a new candle. I bought this candle from a friend’s daughter, who was having a school fundraiser. It’s a Morenci Candle, and the scent is French Vanilla Pear. It’s a great-smelling candle! The sad thing is that Morenci is going out of business after many years of candle making, so if you happen to love these candles, you’d better snap one up fast! This was my first time trying one.
The heat and mosquitoes have returned with a vengeance this week! It was so nice to be under cloud cover and get some rain last week. I got out twice yesterday. I went and visited with my mama yesterday morning, and then yesterday evening, I took the Teen to get ice cream. Our favorite little ice cream parlor moved to a new and bigger location, so he was excited to go check it out. It was a fun little outing!
I plan to stay indoors today. I’m going to start a new book and tackle a couple of chores. It’s just too hot to be out for very long. Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

Fresh cherries are so good! And Jake is adorable. I’m glad you’re taking it easy when it is so hot.
Mandy says
Aww, thank you! Yes, the heat has been NO joke this summer. Every summer I say it’s so bad, and then the next year seems even hotter!

Awww…the kitty is so cute and comfortable.
I too had never really tried real cherries until about 7 years ago. Ranier Cherries are available for about a week and a half here. They come after the 4th but always before the second week of July. I know that is odd that I know that, but the Blue Angels fly their home show the second Saturday of July and the Rangier cherries are always here by then. Those cherries with the Blue Angels has become a tradition. They are only here for 2 weeks. Put them in the back of your brain and remember to look for them next July. You will be shocked by what you have been missing. I ate a whole bag by myself over a few days:)

I actually had some of those last month and they were AMAZING!! I’ll have to make sure to remember this for next year, as they are no longer available in our stores. I love that they are a tradition for you!

I love cherries! I grew up with the maraschino variety but get the fresh ones now whenever they’re on sale. Love them!
The chicken looks so good! Makes me hungry.
I like reading light reading books. I just finished Jan Moran’s Seabreeze series. It was really good.
I hope you have a great weekend!
Mandy says
I just went and purchased Jan Moran’s first Sea Breeze book! I love light reading, too. I prefer non-fiction, but sometimes I just need an escape! I will let you know how it goes!

Great, it is still early in the morning, but now I have a hankering for chicken on the grill! And cherries! Tis the season for cherries that’s for sure. The only seasonal things we have had so far is corn on the cob and watermelon. Gotta love summer!
Mandy says
Oh, I love both corn on the cob and watermelon! I have some corn I just pulled out of the freezer that I put up last summer, so we will have that this week. We’ve had lot of watermelon this summer. My husband loves it! And I have, of course, been hooked on the cherries!

Yes, the heat is back this week! I am glad you got some rest and had a good weekend. That book sounds good, so I may add that to my list.

Hello my Lovely!
I think I may need to check out that book and add it to my kindle – sounds up my alley. 🙂
I love cherries too – so much! I didn’t realize they had more natural sugars than other fruit. Good to know! That chicken your hubby made looks so good and is making me hungry! Lol
I hope the weather cools down for you soon. I’m dreaming on Fall already. Sigh. But trying to focus on the now and embracing summer.
Blessings. xo

This sounds perfect! A new candle, a good book and hubby cooking an amazing dinner! That chicken looks wonderful.
I never watched the 70’s or 90’s show but we loved Miami Vice back in the day!

It sounds like a perfect weekend. I looked up the “Whispering Pine”s book at my library, and there are many books with that name. However, I found the one you read available on Hoopla. I may try it after I finish what I’m reading now.
