Your body can show you many signs of not drinking enough water.  It’s crucial to drink plenty of water.  Failing to do so can cause problems for your body. Keep reading to learn more about some signs indicating you’re not drinking enough water.

Signs You’re Not Drinking Enough Water

Six Signs You're Not Drinking Enough Water.

Dry Mouth and Eyes

When your body fluid level is low, it typically means there isn’t enough of this same fluid to produce tears or saliva. This can lead to dry, itchy eyes or a case of cotton mouth. Lack of water over a long period of time can also cause your skin to become dry and lose its elasticity.

Dark Urine

Examining your urine is the easiest way to tell if you’re getting enough water. When adequately hydrated, your urine should be pale yellow in color. It means you need to drink more water if it’s dark yellow.

Headache

Dehydration has a major effect on the brain. When you’re dehydrated, blood flow to the brain decreases. This is a common cause of headaches. If you’re frequently reaching for pain relievers, it could actually mean you aren’t getting enough water.

Muscle Cramps

When your muscles don’t have enough water, it causes them to become sensitive and prone to spasms.  If you are cramping up frequently, it’s probably time to drink more water.

Lack of Energy

Lack of sleep isn’t the only thing that can leave you feeling listless. Being dehydrated sometimes slows down circulation and limits blood flow. This lack of circulation means less oxygen works its way through your blood to the muscles, which can leave you feeling fatigued and lacking energy.

Joint Pain

Your body needs water to act as a lubricant for your joints. If you are dehydrated, it you can experience joint pain as your bones slide less easily across each other. Also, being dehydrated can cause damage to the cartilage cells in your joints, leading to more long-term joint pain in the future.

My favorite way to rehydrate quickly is with a bottle of water with a packet of Liquid IV mixed in.  It comes in a wide variety of flavors, but I personally love the Fresh Tangerine flavor.

Liquid IV

I drink at least one a day, and it’s also gluten-free.  They’re great after a workout or just when you feel like you need a little extra hydration.  I even drink them after a hot bath.

Need a little extra motivation to drink water?  Some people find that getting a fun water bottle helps them remember to stay hydrated.

Not drinking enough water is a severe issue. Even if you can’t drink the recommended eight glasses of water daily, drink as much as possible. In this case, every little bit helps!
