Do you know a little boy or girl who will be getting a new bicycle for Christmas? More importantly, will they have the protection they need to ride their new bikes safely?
I can remember first learning how to ride a bike. It was thrilling and scary when my dad finally let go of the bike, and I know for sure that I walked away with a few bumps and bruises. Back then, I didn’t have knee pads or a helmet to ensure that my injures would be minimal or non-existent. Once I got the hang of riding the bike by myself, it became my prime mode of transportation around the neighborhood I grew up in for many years to come. I have so many wonderful memories of the bikes I had growing up!

My big sister had a cool purple bike with a banana seat. I had been trying to use my rusted old bike everybody in the neighborhood started to learn with. Well my sister said I could try her bike and she held it for me. I was so proud to learn. That way the old bike got passed to the next person in the neighborhood.

I learned to ride a bike when I was 7 years old..My daddy had gotten me and my twin brother our very first bikes. My twin brother decided to teach me how to ride my bike. He took me to the top of a big hill next to our house and told me to get on my bike. I got on and he just said ” Sissy all you gotta do is hold on” and he pushed me right off that hill. I was going so fast and thought I was doing great, until I realized he didn’t tell me how to stop ! I wrecked and skinned my leg up pretty bad, but I sure learned how to ride a bike lol !

We continued to help my first son practice and learn and it seemed to not be clicking. Then one day he just did it on his own while we were not watching and then proceeded to teach his brother. No looking back.

I had 4 sons. I grew up ridding bikes,so it probably was easier for them to learn. I think parents who don’t allow them to expand with a few bumps and bruises. Please enter me, thank you

My daughter learned how to ride a bike thanks to the neighbor girl. I am a BAD bike rider and was struggling to teach her. Sarah was trying so hard, but it wasn’t clicking. She was peddling backwards (braking) and not even realizing it. The neighbor (about 4 years older than Sarah) saw us and asked if she could help. She worked with Sarah for a hour and that was all it took.

I remember very will when I learned to ride a bike. I was 7 and my oldest sister would hold onto the back of the bike and run while I peddled. I fell so many times my bike of 2 weeks look like I had it 10 years. lol I kept trying an eventually I could ride that bike with out using my hands.

My sons are getting bikes(their first) this holiday. And my niece and nephew are getting new ones. So this gift basket would ROCK.
I remember my dad teaching me to ride my bike without training wheels. Painstaking process. I never learned to brake properly, prefering to jump off. One day I USED the break, but my tire got stuck between the sidewalk and neatly trimmed grass and I landed on my forehead and needed stitches. The neighbor had to run me to my house, bleeding. And my dad ran through a zillion red lights to get me to the hospital. If I had a helmet, it would have been much safer~

i learned to ride a bike by jumping on and doing. i wanted to keep up with my older brother, that’s for sure. and, back in the day, we didn’t have helmets, elbow pads and knee pads. bumps and bruises were part of the rite of passage of learning to ride a two wheeler!

I helped my nephew learn how to ride a bike (without his training wheels) a few years back by telling him to imagine a string on the top of his head pulling him up toward the clouds. He was zooming around the school parking lot within 20 minutes! Thanks for the chance to win the great prize pack!

I felt so little and out of control when I tried to learn to ride my bicycle as a child. My mom would hold on to the back of the bicycle and I was so nervous that they were going to let go and that I would crash! I’d forgotten all about that feeling until my little girl started learning to ride. I saw the fear in her little face and remembered my own fear. It made me not want to let go of her seat. I loved seeing her ride on her own for the first time.

I remember I had training wheels for a while until I got good enough to ride without them. My parents never got us a helmit or pad but none of my friends had them either but then again back then. Things have changed. My kids are not ever going to be allowed to ride without a helmit.

My one daughter learned how to ride her bike this year. I was a little scared. So afraid of her getting hurt but she was such a trooper. Didn’t take long for her to catch on.
