It has been March of 2008 since our little town has seen any sort of significant snowfall. The snow has danced above and below us over the past two years, but nothing to cancel school and work which is THE GOAL.
The Weather Channel started warning us last Wednesday that THE BIG ONE was on the way. Up to 5 inches of snow, possible ice, and to GET READY. People laugh at us here in the South when it snows because life as we know it comes to a halt. However, we’ve seen nasty ice storms that knock out power for 2 weeks, we have no snow plows here, and the roads become treacherous for those who live out in the rural areas. I made the traditional trip to the store on Friday to stock up before the storm.
By Saturday evening my friends and I were cackling over the trashed Wal-Mart and Kroger pictures on Facebook. The bread aisle, frozen food section, and chips and drinks section of every store in town was wiped clean. Mass hysteria had set in and I dare say these little grocery stores probably made more money during this past weekend than the whole Christmas season.
By Sunday at noon, fat, beautiful flakes were falling. And Monday morning, we woke up to this:
So naturally, school and work were cancelled and the day was spent doing this:
A snow day at home with my two favorite guys. It was, in a word, perfect!

I’m also in Mississippi (Pearl) & we prayed so hard for snow, but only got ice. The schools & work closed for that one day. We rarely have a snow day.

Looks like you had a great time out in the snow. I am impressed that you had boots for the weather. Love the snowman that you made. Our snow has not been good for making them. We had 13″ last time, but it was powder/fluff that is not good for much.
PS – I am not laughing at you. I know that the south may hault, but for good reason. Obviously you do not have the plows, road salt, and other resources that we have here in NY.
