Most people associate romantic getaways with costly dalliances in five-star resorts located on sunlit tropical beachfront property. However, romance doesn’t have to involve huge expenditures of cash.

In fact, dinner served in front of the fireplace at an intimate inn during the winter is much more conducive to romance than commercial atmospheres that offer canned romance. The next time you want to get away with your guy, plan a trip to a country inn in a location fairly far from where you live but not so far that you will be spending a good chunk of your getaway traveling.

One of the best aspects of visiting a country inn is that the ambiance is romantic during any time of the year. Wildflowers provide splashes of vibrancy during spring and summer months, while changing autumn leaves and crisp starlit nights characterize the months of October and November in many parts of the country. Snowfall in winter provides an entrancing atmosphere for lovers. Instead of scrimping and going without things that you want so that you can afford to fly to the tropics with your lover, you should be looking for deals on cocktail dresses to wear in front of a crackling fire while sipping wine in the living room of a country inn.

One of the best ways to have a romantic weekend at a country inn is to call ahead and ask the host to recommend a time when the establishment isn’t very crowded. You should also enlist the assistance of the host or hosts in finding interesting things to do in the local community. If the inn is located in wine tasting country, for instance, you may be able to participate in tasting tours or visit tasting rooms on your own.

Many country inns are also located near good walking trails where you and your lover can commune with nature for the better part of the day. If the weather is reasonably warm, you should pack a picnic lunch with a nice bottle of wine to enjoy in the woods or in a meadow. If the weather is rainy, snowy or otherwise cold, a visit to a local museum or art gallery would be a good afternoon pastime. As your host if there are any local musical performances or theater productions available that you can attend.

It is more important to spend time with your partner than to be overwhelmed by stunning scenery and weighted down by hefty price tags. Pick a charming country place where you can explore the community as well as reconnect with one another. Low-key establishments in areas with abundant natural beauty are recommended for those who want to focus on each other more than their environment or activities. Many couples have success booking reservations during the standard slow times of the area that they are planning to visit.

No matter where you and your man decide to go for your next romantic getaway, be sure to make him the major focus of your attention.
