Popular & Trendy Baby Names 101

Posted on March 25, 2013March 13, 2019 by Mandy

One of the most exciting things about having a baby is choosing just the perfect name!  As soon as we found out we were expecting our son, we pretty much had his name figured out immediately.  We went the traditional route, and some may even say our choice sounds really old fashioned, but our son was named after two of his great-great uncles, men we were proud to name our son after.

If you’re in the process of choosing a baby name, you will definitely want to check out this cool Baby Names infographic below which lists all sorts of baby names from the really popular to the truly trendy.  Need some pointers on how to go about choosing the perfect name?  All of that information is included as well.  And finally, head over to Pish Posh Baby and enter the Bugaboo Bee Stroller Contest.  The new baby needs a cool ride, right?

Where To Find Party Supplies

Posted on March 24, 2013January 10, 2016 by Mandy

I plan a couple of parties each year.  My son’s birthday party is definitely the biggest one I plan all year, but I also help throw an occasional baby or wedding shower as well.  I love picking out party supplies for these events, but it’s often tough to do because we have so few brick and mortar stores where I live that offer a wide selection of supplies needed to make these events extra special.  I almost always have to order a majority of the things I need online because I just can’t find them here.

www.parteaz.co.uk offers a huge selection of party supplies perfect for any occasion.  From children’s birthday parties, anniversary parties and baby showers, Parteaz can supply your next event with all of the tableware, party favors, and little extras you need to make it special.  Need a cake?  They do that, also!

I love that Parteaz has such a great selection of children’s birthday party supplies that aren’t only centered on characters.  I prefer to have themed parties for my son (although we have done characters as well in the past), and love their great selection of sports, animal, and even military themed party supplies.  Parteaz isn’t only just for children’s events, though.  They also offer a fabulous selection of adult themed party supplies for events centered around the 50’s, casino, tropical, and Hollywood, just to name a few.

If you’re currently planning an event and looking for a great selection of party supplies, be sure and check out Parteaz.

Name It Labels Helps Keep Track Of Your Stuff

Posted on March 24, 2013March 24, 2013 by Mandy

If you have kids, chances are you also have a lot of “stuff” to keep track of.  Backpacks, toys, clothing, and the list goes on and on.  Sometimes it’s easy to identify what belongs to whom, but if your child attends a school where uniforms are pretty much all alike, as well as coats and jackets, sometimes the extra “stuff” just looks all the same.  This is where self-adhesive label printing can come in very handy to help keep track of what belongs to you.

Does your child carry a lunchbox at school that might also be a popular style with everyone else?  How about sports equipment?  If your things are in a community setting, it can be very easy to mistake these things for yours.  Self-adhesive labels from Name It Labels make it super easy to design and apply labels your child will recognize in order to avoid any confusion.  There are the standard name labels, featuring just your child’s name, that can be ordered or you can dress up your design and really personalize it with different shapes and styles.

As a librarian, I can see that these labels would be perfect for children to have to label their own personal books.  I often times find books in our library that don’t belong to the school, but because a child didn’t write their name inside of it, I have no idea who it belongs to unless they return and ask for it specifically.  These labels would be great for kids who do a lot of reading to have in case of instances like this.

As a kid, I loved seeing my name on my things, especially if I was lucky enough to actually find cool stickers with my name.  Name It Labels are perfect for just about anything you own that you don’t want to lose track of.

No High-Maintenance Here, Thankyouverymuch

funny pedicure

I got a pedicure yesterday.  I hate getting a pedicure.  I realize I’m probably the only woman out there who doesn’t enjoy going to get her feet “all prettied up”, but it’s not a relaxing thing for me and I would seriously rather go to the dentist than have this done. Yes, for real.  Don’t get me wrong, because I love the results when it’s all over with, but I just don’t get why this is considered a relaxing thing.

This most recent experience in beauty adventures wasn’t as bad as the time before.  I swear the time before, the woman who was doing my pedicure fired up an electric nail file that sounded like it would take my foot off.  It didn’t hurt, but it sounded horrible and, of course, all I could think about was this thing seriously taking my foot off.!!!.

Not this time, though.  No electric anything, thank God.  The man (yes, MAN!!  I know….I was just as incredulous/horrified/freaked out, etc. when I realized he would be providing me with my pedicure that day because I had no idea men did this sort of thing) did a great job, all things considered.  I was fine soaking my feet.  I was fine with getting my cuticles trimmed.  I was fine until the “all things considered”, which involves a foot file.  The one that looks like an industrial sized hand-held cheese grater that they scrub the bottom of your feet with.  Scrub my heels with it?  Fine.  However, I just cannot take anything rubbing on the bottom of my feet and this is the part where I come unglued in my seat.  My seat, which is jostling me around like a bad roller coaster.  I get that it’s supposed to be relaxing, that seat massage thingy.  However, when you are as short as me, you have to sort of sit towards the edge of the seat to even reach the foot bath, so it’s like your just shaking non-stop, and I’m sure it looks just as stupid as it feels.  I always end up turning the seat off.

I all but kick this man clear across the room when it’s time to exfoliate the bottom of my feet.  I laugh.  I apologize.  I probably looked like a squirmy toddler sitting on a church pew to everyone in the nail salon.  He laughs and hurries.  All done.  Thank you, Jesus.  A little lotion and polish and $40 later I am flip-flop season ready once again.

But this nonsense about a pedicure being “relaxing”?  I just don’t buy it and strictly consider this “maintenance” I have done for the greater good of all that have to look at my feet when I wear sandals and flip-flops.  Is there some trick to this being more enjoyable or are women just lying to make it sound like this is such an amazing, indulgent beauty treatment?

Faith Leaps by Alyssa Avant

faith leaps

Are you a mom passionate about starting your own home business?  Many times navigating this new dream can be scary and leave you full of fears and doubts about your own God-given abilities to make it happen.  If you are currently at a crossroads about turning your passion into profit, may I recommend a book I just finished reading?

faith leaps book

Faith Leaps by Alyssa Avant can walk you through each step of the way in building your business and taking that “faith leap” you need to step out and make it possible.  Worried about time management?  Scared your business won’t turn a profit?  Just plain scared to make the next move?  Alyssa thoroughly covers each and every fear or concern that may cross your mind to help you stay the course in pursuing your heart’s desire.

I have had the pleasure of following Alyssa Avant as she has established herself as a woman passionate for helping others achieve their dreams.  I first discovered her blog a few years ago and was instantly a reader.  She’s also a fellow Mississippi girl!  I’ve seen her nurture and bring her own dreams to fruition and I can’t tell you how excited I am to see her share all of her knowledge in book form.  I was hooked from the first few pages (it’s almost as if she’s reading your mind!) and I can tell you this is really, really good stuff if you’re ready to take a “faith leap” and pursuit your own dreams, but just need a little help doing it.

I was provided with a review copy of this book to facilitate this review.  All opinions are my own.

Spring Break In A Nutshell

Posted on March 15, 2013January 10, 2016 by Mandy

6- number of hours spent in blissful napping this week.

350- number of times I’ve had to listen to “Gagnum Style” since son discovered this song. Ugh.

2- number of babies cuddled and rocked. (No, we didn’t have any…they belong to family!)

1- But speaking of new additions to the family, number of cars bought this week:

WP_005018

8- number of hours spent cleaning.

4- number of blog posts I accomplished this week.  So much for catching up!

57- number of blogs deleted from my feed reader.  Mostly “fluff stuff” like home improvement and fashion which haven’t been read in 200 posts or more.  “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”

840bazillion- number of times I’ve heard the word “MOM!!!” (but there is no sweeter word, so not complaining)

38- number of times the words “Duck Dynasty” have shown up in my Facebook feed.

3- number of lamps purchased.

1- number of bedroom makeover fails.

2- number of days I actually “slept in”.

0- number of times I wished this week would hurry up and fly by so I could go back to work.

The Donut House Coffee- #yourperfectcup

Posted on March 15, 2013March 15, 2013 by Mandy

Win12DonutHouseMood

The best donut shop in our town closed its doors a couple of years ago.  It was a beloved town staple that is surely missed by so many.  Anytime I stopped in, I was always greeted with a warm, friendly smile and hello from the owner “Mr. Jimmy", and I always ordered the same thing; a chocolate filled donut, a sausage and biscuit, and chocolate milk to drink.  His shop was small, but the few tables he had were always filled with “the regulars” drinking coffee and reading the day’s headlines in the newspapers.  I suppose I took for granted that our donut shop would always be around.  To this day I would still give anything for one of those donuts.  They were amazing!

This month, Green Mountain Coffee is pleased to offer The Donut House Collection K-Cup Packs at 15% off when you use code DONUTHOUSE8162.  This code is good through March 19 and includes such flavors as Chocolate Glazed Donut and Cinnamon Roll.  Is your mouth watering yet?

DonutHouse horz2

Not only were these K-Cup packs from The Donut House collection delicious, they also brought back a little nostalgia for the local donut shop I loved so much.

I was sent Donut House Coffee samples to facilitate my post as an ambassador for Keurig/Green Mountain Coffee. All opinions are my own.
