Journey To Health

Posted on May 29, 2012May 29, 2012 by Mandy

Due to recent medical test results that a certain person in our home who shall remain nameless received, we all have to change our terrible eating habits in our home. Said certain nameless person has already changed theirs and is feeling much better, so that leaves me. Have I ever told you guys how much I don’t cooperate with change? How I hate exercise? No? Well, consider yourselves warned because this is going to be my summer “hobby”, I guess.

*sigh* **stomps feet**

In all seriousness, I know we need to do this. The way we eat and hardly exercise is totally unhealthy. It’s just that it’s so difficult for me to stick with anything when I don’t see immediate results. I also have no willpower. This is a dangerous combination when trying to change anything in life for the better. However, I have no excuses now, seeing that I am off work all summer and have time to prepare healthy meals and exercise regularly.

This week I will be experimenting with eating healthier, trying new foods, and (gasp!) exercising. I’ve decided to give Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred a whirl. I’m probably biting off way more than I can chew for a beginner, but we will see how this week goes, weed out what works and what doesn’t, and then get really, really serious next week.

I’m also looking for any great websites and apps that can help with this journey to health. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them in the comment section.

Wish me luck! I will keep you all posted.

Summer is here, and I have 2 whole months off with my child! I am beyond excited, but I also know that it won’t be long before he is complaining about being bored, even though he will be going on vacation and visiting the local pool we join each summer. He will also be expected to put in a little “brain work” to get through the age-appropriate summer reading list he was sent home with when school ended. I want to help him retain the things he learned in Kindergarten this past school year and challenge him to do a little more, but I also want him to have fun with learning so it doesn’t seem like a chore. I am so excited to start LeapFrog Summer Camp with my son and will be sharing our adventures in learning with you as we go along. This 8-week long journey into learning and fun is perfect for children ages 4-7.

What does LeapFrog Summer Camp offer your child?

Enjoy 8 weeks of printables, crafts, and fun projects while exploring geography, writing, science, art, and more!

Get 15% off select LeapFrog products all summer!

Enter the weekly contest for books and games worth $50, plus enter for a chance to win a grand prize worth $500!

LeapFrog Summer Camp starts Sunday, June 3, with emails filled with activities and extras being sent every other Sunday throughout the summer. We’re anxiously awaiting our first email and hope you’ll sign up for the fun, too!

Memorial Day- 2012

Posted on May 28, 2012May 27, 2012 by Mandy

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

~Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD
