I Went on A Date

Posted on June 22, 2012January 10, 2016 by Mandy

What started as a conversation about why we brush our teeth before bed ended up with my son asking me out for a lunch date the other night, which at seven years old, is just precious to me.  Of course, I paid, but I certainly don’t mind.  I know there will come a day when going out to lunch with mom will not be a high priority on his list, so I will take these little opportunities to spend some quality time with him as often as possible.

lunch date

And how was that lunch date?  Well, it involved lots and lots and lots of talk about Minecraft (a video game) and lots and lots and lots of fighter jet sound effects.  In other words, every girl’s dream!  And of course, I listened as if this was the most fascinating conversation I had ever had the pleasure to partake in.

The truth is, I stink at understanding video games, am not very creative when it comes to building Legos, and can’t tell a Blackhawk helicopter from a Chinook most days.  What I do know is that I am so blessed to be this little guy’s mom.  He looks absolutely nothing like me (he is ALL daddy), but I can see he has that definite only child/fierce imagination thing going on that I had while growing up, and being around him makes me want to be that carefree again.  I love how he approaches everyone and everything with an open heart, no preconceived notions whatsoever.

So, while my little guy talked on and on, I marveled at what an amazing gift he is and what in the world I ever did without him.  And I was also a little sad.  Because someday, some girl out there who is crazy about boys with cheese dip dribbling down their shirts who can make cool sound effects while talking circles around them about video games is going to come along and steal his heart.  *sniff*

Sesame Street Singing With The Stars DVD

Posted on June 21, 2012June 23, 2012 by Mandy

OK, all you 30-something parents out there reading this…how many of you grew up faithfully watching Sesame Street? Me too! Everyday when I came home from school, I hopped off the bus at my grandmother’s house, ate a snack, and immediately tuned in to PBS to watch the great line-up of kids programming. Sesame Street was my very favorite show on PBS and I know it played a very integral part in my learning.

If you and your family are huge fans of Sesame Street, you will definitely not want to miss out on the Sesame Street Singing With The Stars DVD which became available on May 1.

Elmo and the gang love to sing and dance and now you and your kids can join them! With over 15 musical performances by some of the biggest names in music and entertainment, your favorite Sesame Street friends invite you to enjoy the party! Songs range from classics such as, “Furry Happy Monsters” with R.E.M.to Emmy Award-winning hit “What I Am” with Will.i.am, and focus on encouraging children to feel good about who they are, boosting self-esteem and confidence.

When I popped this DVD in, my whole family was immediately all ears! It was fun to sing along to songs we all recognized by some of the biggest artists in the music business. This is definitely a must-have for Sesame Street fans of all ages!

I was provided with this DVD to review. All opinions are strictly my own. No other compensation was received.
