On Friday I accompanied my son and his class at school on a field trip to Bull Bottom Farms in Duck Hill, Mississippi.  I have to confess I was not really excited about going at first. We have been on a few pumpkin patch field trips with the school, and while they were “ok”, I’ll just go ahead and make the bad mommy confession that sometimes those field trips bore me to tears.  There.  I said it.

The drive to Bull Bottom Farms from where we live in the Mississippi Delta took a little over an hour, but the land is so pretty up towards “the hills” and I had excellent company in my carpool (my son, a friend of his, and the friend’s mom), so the ride was enjoyable.  The farm is located right off I-55, a little past Grenada, so getting there was no problem with my trusty GPS.  It is off the beaten path for sure, so make sure you have good directions if you go.  You will also travel dirt and gravel roads once off the interstate, so be prepared for that also.

 

The farm is just FILLED with so many things for the kids.   There was a hay maze, a corn maze (kiddy one and adult one), a corn slide, swings, a giant hay pyramid to climb, farm animals, a cow train, a sand pit, and so much more.

 

 

 

My very favorite part of the whole trip was riding the huge red trailer pulled by the tractor out to the pumpkin patch.  It was a good 5 minute ride or so out to the pumpkin field, and Bull Bottom Farms is situated on some of the most beautiful land.  There were ponds, cows, and the breeze blowing on us as we rode felt heavenly.

 

 

However, if you were to ask the kids what their favorite part was, I know they would tell you that the giant slide was the best!  The adults sat under the shade trees and watched the kids slide until they were exhausted!  Some of the adults even braved the slide, too.  I chose not to because I sort of like not having broken bones.  Ha!

 

If you ever find yourself going to Bull Bottom Farms, they only accept cash, so be prepared because you will definitely want one of their reasonably priced pumpkins, excellent snacks from the snack bar, and they even sell some of the cutest fall décor and kid toys in their store.  The restrooms (porta-potties) were super clean (and Lord knows I hate porta-potties, but these were seriously ok), there are picnic benches to eat at (or just take a rest), and you might want to bring a pocket knife to cut your pumpkin off the vine.

I can’t rave enough about this family operated farm.  The family that runs it were super nice and helpful.  I think every child should experience something like this once in their life.  It seriously made me want to go live in the country, and that’s saying a lot because I am so not a “country girl”!  This was SO much fun and the best field trip ever.
