Splenda Sweetner

Posted on April 14, 2010September 8, 2010 by Mandy

I became a big fan of Splenda while pregnant with my son. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and found that Splenda was the only sugar substitute that came the closest to tasting like real sugar. I still use it daily in my morning coffee and also buy it by the bag to make our sweet tea.

Courtesy of Splenda and Mom Central, I was sent a box of Splenda Granulated and a Splenda Tastebook filled with 40 classic recipes to try out. We braved the kitchen (my son loves baking cookies, cakes, etc.) and tried out the Crispy Chewey Oatmeal Rasin Cookies and were not disappointed in the taste. It’s super easy to incorporate Splenda as a sugar substitute in cooking and I have pledged to use it more in our dishes which call for regular sugar.

For more great recipes using Splenda, please visit http://splenda.tastebook.com/.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Splenda and received products necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, a donation was made in my name to the Meals on Wheel organization to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Workin’ at the Carwash

Bless his little heart. He’s still at that age where “helping out” is fun. Thanks to E.B., Mommy has the shiniest el cheapo standard Ford hubcaps ever! Don’t hate, y’all.

It’s just too stinkin’ bad that by the time he can mow the yard (OH, Happy Day!!!), “helping” won’t be fun anymore. I’m convinced this is why some families have, like, 17 children. One child for each chore.

Farmville Addiction

Posted on March 23, 2010September 8, 2010 by Mandy

When you leave notes by the computer to remind yourself when your crops will be ready to harvest, you might have a Farmville addiction.

(These notes belong to my husband, who is on vacation this week and who recently got sucked into Farmville. Please pray for him.)

If you are down about life, your blog, and just things in general, I invite you to click on the following links. I have read some uplifting blog posts this weekend by some amazing bloggers and wanted to pass them along just in case anyone else needed a fresh perspective to start the week.

Amanda at i am mommy has written a fantastic series called Things Successful Bloggers Do: Big Blogs vs. Small Blogs. Read them all, but pay attention especially to this post. Then, after you’ve fallen in love with her blog, click here and give her a vote.

The Success of Other People Does Not Equal Your Failure by Stephanie at Metropolitan Mama- When it seems like everyone else is surpassing you, keep this post in mind. I’d also like to tip my hat to Stephanie for pointing me to this next post below:

Somebody Wants What You Have by Amy at The Finer Things– This stopped me in my tracks about the grumbling I do over everyday things I take for granted.

Now go forth and have a happy Monday.

Let’s Give Mommy a Coronary!

Posted on March 16, 2010September 8, 2010 by Mandy

The other night E.B. and I stopped to pay a visit to my aunt and uncle. When we were about to leave, my aunt handed me this and said that E.B. had sat it down when he came in and she didn’t want him to be upset if he left it:

It’s beautiful, right? A pill box. Almost vintage looking.

A pill box.

An EMPTY PILL BOX???!!!!

I immediately swore that, no, he couldn’t have brought it in. I don’t have a pill box and no, it was just impossible. Perhaps it was theirs?

No, my aunt insisted. It was not. So we asked E.B. where he got it.

“Grandma gave it to me.”

Grandma. We had been at Grandma’s house. Grandma, who is now on heart medication because of her recent bypass and valve replacement surgery. Enough medications, I’m sure, to keep the pharmacy in business. E.B. was acting fine, but I was in panic mode as I dialed Grandma’s number to confirm my fears.

It turns out that yes, Grandma did give it to E.B. He had spotted it in a stack of things she was about to donate to a yard sale. And yes, it was empty when she gave it to him.

Oh. Oh, thank God.

I could breathe.

How this slipped by me, I will never know. In any case, we are the proud new owners of a yard sale cast-off pill box and my heart sure got a workout.
