FUN New Year’s Resolutions
I’ve been thinking about what I want from the new year ahead, and instead of limiting myself to the usual resolutions of "I’m going to stop doing this…", or "no more of this…", I thought instead I would make a list of everything I want to do. While this list is certainly frivolous, I definitely do have some bigger goals in mind. But this? Is just more fun.
2012 Bucket List
Master Eye Shadow Application- we discussed this in my last post.
Grow my hair out and work with it’s natural wave and stop abusing it with the flat iron so much.
Paint my fingernails more. I can’t keep them too long because I wear contacts, but I can start enjoying color more. I’ll just leave the crazy colors for my toes.![]()
Write more letters and send more cards. This is becoming a dying art, folks.
Fill up all of the 500 picture frames I have in storage. Since joining Pinterest, I have become inspired!
Not feel one ounce of guilt for watching the shows I’ve become addicted to since being home on Christmas break. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Tabitha’s Salon Takeover, and Toddler’s and Tiaras, anyone? So bad, it’s good!
So there’s my superficial New Year’s resolutions list. Care to share any of yours?
Eye Shadow Obsession
So, sometime right before the holidays I developed a little obsession with eye shadow, which is a shame because I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to using it. The last time I wore eye shadow was during the late eighties (think blue and green) and I even had to have my cousin apply my eye shadow for my wedding day. See? I clearly have no business using this stuff.
But. I love it. I even have a Pinterest Pin Board devoted to it. I just love the way it looks (mostly on other people) and it just amazes me how so many colors can blend together to create a beautiful result (mostly on other people).
So for Christmas I bought myself this fun pallet of eye shadow and have been experimenting with blending different colors. I’m definitely scared of the darker ones, so I’m taking baby steps with the browns and pinks, but someday I will master this.
Addicted To Pinterest
Ok, raise your hand if you’re currently fighting an addiction to Pinterest. Yeah, me too. I’ve been totally guilty of staying up way too late the past few nights just drooling over the amazing ideas I’m finding there for everything from home decor to cooking. This is how my Pinterest love/hate relationship has gone down over the holidays:
Day 1…..Look around. Save a few things. It’s just meh.
Day 2…..Look around. Like it a little more. Create more boards. This is kind of fun.
Day 3…..Look around. Totally hooked. Go on a pinning and following frenzy. OMG….this is amazing!
Day 4…..Look around. Realize I cannot possibly re-create anything I see on there. It’s either too time consuming or too expensive. Feel sad. REALLY sad. Bummed all day.
Day 5…..Oh wait! Somebody posts some easy things I CAN do. And inexpensive! Oh boy! I’m back in the game!!!
And now I’m totally hooked. It is so much fun seeing what inspires others and figuring a way to personalize on that idea if it’s one I like. But the thing is, I just keep pinning and pinning and not doing ANYTHING I see because I am so lazy hooked on this virtual window shopping.
Clearly, this is not good. I realize this. I need help. But it is so much fun.

I’ll follow you back, and not feel so alone in my addiction new hobby.
Merry Christmas!
Outer Space Cat
When we went to pick up LJ from the vet today, we never imagined he’d be coming home with one of those plastic cone collars, but he did. E.B. immediately went crazy when he saw it.
E.B.: “MOM!! Oh my gosh….look!! He has a satellite on his head!!”
Me: “Yes he does. It’s to keep him from licking his hurt paw so he won’t get the medicine in his mouth”.
E.B.: “This is soooo awesome!! Now when LJ wants to contact somebody, he can just use his satellite!!”.
It makes me sad watching him bumble so awkwardly around the house, and I know he hates it, but hopefully it’s only for a few more days.
Holiday Update- Hustle & Bustle
Wow! It seems like ever since the Thanksgiving holidays ended we have been in turbo holiday mode around our house! We have had so much happening and I have had so many things to keep up with that, now that my Christmas break from work is here, my head is still sort of spinning! I also feel as if I haven’t been giving enough personal attention to this blog. This is the one outlet I really enjoy about my “me time”, but there has been so little of that lately.
E.B. has participated in two Christmas programs (at school and church) and he did wonderfully! He really enjoyed playing a shepherd in the church program, although he complained about his “itchy costume”. He also got to go have Breakfast with Santa at another school here in town (my best friend works there) AND….my baby is starting to READ!! I am sooo thrilled and can’t get enough of hearing him read simple, short stories to me.
Work has been going really well for me and I am still in love with my little library! We’re gearing up for the Reading Fair after the holidays and I was named Teacher of the Month for December! It made me feel so good to know that what I do matters. It was a great confidence boost since I had been out of the classroom for a few years. Our Christmas break started Friday afternoon and it has felt great sleeping in a little longer each morning!
My husband is doing fine, although he is fighting off a nasty sinus infection. He’s been on the road, so we can’t wait to have him home in a few days!
The cats…..Clyde is super. Pearl is super. But poor LJ suffered an injury that dislocated his paw from his leg. Since he would have to be knocked out to repair the injury, we also decided this would be a good time to have him neutered. He should be coming home from the vet tomorrow and I’m pretty sure he won’t be too happy with “Mama” for a little bit, but we hope he will be feeling like his old self soon.
And….there is still much shopping, baking, and wrapping to be done, but I work best under pressure. I hope.
So that’s our little update! I’m looking forward to 2 weeks of uninterrupted family and blogging time. I’ve missed my little corner of the cyberworld!
