October Happenings

October seems to be flying by, but I didn’t want to let another week go by without posting.  I say it repeatedly, but I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to make a post here more often.  When I first left my job, it was hard for me to find things to fill my days, but now it seems like something is always going on.  Some weeks are just busier than others.  Last week was one of those weeks.

OctoberFest

Our town had its annual OctoberFest downtown on Saturday, which is a huge barbeque competition and arts and crafts festival.  I haven’t been to one since 2019.  However, my bestie texted me the night before and asked if I was up to going, so I said sure!  I wasn’t sure how well I would walk around, but I hadn’t been out and about in so long and was itching to do something different.

We found a fabulous parking place and set out to check out all of the craft booths.  We saw tons of cute wreaths, jewelry, monogrammed items, and more.  I wish I would have taken better pictures, but I feel weird taking pictures of vendor’s items right in front of them.

We made a beeline for the booth of our former teacher, who makes jams, jellies, and relishes. I bought a jar of chow-chow, and my friend got several jars of jelly. I also got a beautiful Christmas ornament.

We walked and walked!  There was so much to see, and we always bumped into people we hadn’t seen in a while.  OctoberFest weekend is also a busy time for class reunions in our town because they combine them with Octoberfest happenings.  It’s sort of like a huge homecoming for the town.

The coolest thing we got to see was the solar eclipse while we were there. The Chamber of Commerce was selling eclipse glasses for $1, so we got some and got to watch the eclipse as it happened. Naturally, I couldn’t get a picture of that, but I did snap a shot of the crescent-shaped shadows the sun was putting off during it. I had no idea that happened as a result of an eclipse! My bestie pointed that out to me.

We made the big loop and then popped into a couple of stores downtown. I ended up finding a cute pair of shoes that were marked down to $20.  I also found a similar pair of snakeskin sneakers on Amazon that I also like!  Hmm….

After that, we decided to grab some lunch at Airport Grocery. I had my usual hot tamales and a side salad.  It was wonderful and so good to get to sit down and visit with my friend.  When I got home, I finally felt “it.”  I knew I had way, way, way overdone it on the walking.  I ended up taking an extensive three-hour nap!

Homecoming Sunday

Sunday was also busy!  I had a chauffeured ride to church, compliments of the Teen!

Our church had its Homecoming service.  Our church is 115 years old, and Homecoming Sunday is always great for seeing so many people who have moved away.  We always have a former pastor and minister of music to come back and lead the service, and it’s always great to see them and their families as well!  Hubby was able to stay home for this, and he had to leave to go back out on the road after lunch.  The Teen ended up staying after church with my mom to eat there, but Hubby and I came home so I could help him pack up and make sure he got everything. Once the Teen made it home, we napped!  That evening, I did a little laundry to make sure we were ready for the week!

This Week

This week is off to a good, although chilly, start!  It’s so hard to get going on these colder mornings.  The Teen is taking the ACT this morning.  I think this should be his last time to take it.  We are already satisfied with the score he has, but he is taking it one more time.  I ensured he had a good breakfast and got him off at school on time.  He should be finished around lunch.  I’ve started a load of laundry this morning, and Hubby should be in late this afternoon.  We have tickets for a spaghetti dinner another church is doing, so I’m excited that I don’t have to cook!  Haha!

Oh, and we have some progress to report!

I came home from visiting my mom yesterday morning, and the metal for our roof had been delivered!

Two men from the roofing company stopped by a few minutes ago to check some things out, so hopefully, work will start soon!

That’s all of our October happenings this week so far!  Hope you have a great week as well!

It was so cloudy in our area that no one saw the eclipse. Those shadows are cool!
I like your church’s homecoming event. I would love to have something like that in the church I grew up in.
    Your Octoberfest looks fun too!
