Real Life is hosting the My Least Favorite Things carnival today and I am so happy to participate because there is really only ONE thing that I do not want my child to ever, ever, ever receive for Christmas…birthday….whenever. And yes, I am sorry to say it’s a classic family board game. I present to you the Hi Ho Cherry O game.

Why I Hate the Hi Ho Cherry O Game

Whoever invented this obviously didn’t have children, or if they did their children obviously always picked up EVERY stinkin’ little plastic cherry EVERY TIME they played the game and put everything away in the box neatly.

My hate affair with Hi Ho Cherry O began when I was 22 and babysitting for a certain family. They had two kids…and they had this goshforsaken game. We played the game. It was fun. But then I got stuck picking up a million little plastic cherries. And every time I thought I was finished, several more appeared. I swear they multiply!

hi ho cherry o

In any case, we have two cats who I’m sure would just love to get their paws on those plastic cherries. We also have our son who gets a kick out of throwing anything that small. I don’t see either one of them moving past these urges to eat and throw.  Can you even imagine stepping on one of these tiny little apples?  I’m sure it hurts almost as bad as stepping on a LEGO.  Ouch!

So the Hi Ho Cherry O game is my least favorite thing. Ever ever ever.  But it’s still a lot of fun to play, and if you actually don’t mind having to pick up a million tiny plastic cherries, or if you don;t have to worry about it because YOUR kids pick up after themselves, then I highly recommend you add this to your collection of board games.

LOL Based on the comments, people really have a different opinion on almost everything. To each his own. It is really better to let other people know what we do not like as much as what we like.

I will give you a Hi Ho Cherry-o and raise you Legos. eight billion legos that no matter how many you pick up, you manage to step on in your bare feet. I have a love/hate affair with legos.

I love Hi Ho Cherry O. Hmmm don’t think I ever swallowed any pieces and I don’t think my kids did , but it’s definitely possible.

This is actually one of my all time favorite games.

I totally agree! We have this game, and we spent all day trying to keep the cherries out of the toddler’s mouth!

Yes this is a very bad game to have! My kids are old enough (10 & 12) to not swallow them, my cat however would think those small pieces were left behind just for him.
