It’s a Saturday evening post, and I can’t believe it myself!  Haha!  I have been so behind on posting and catching up with reading other blogs.  I finally sat down last night and made it a priority to visit my regular blogs and check on everyone.  I finished all my blog reading in my feed reader.  I did it on the desktop since my iPad seems to be giving me errors when I try to comment on Blogger blogs.  But the comments went through, I think, so all is well!

Halloween Highlights

Are you tired of Halloween updates yet?  Haha!  Our was really tame this year.  I had made up a few sacks for my “VIP Trick-or-Treaters, as I call them.  These were kids and grandkids of close friends that I knew would be stopping by.

Halloween treat bags

I had a small amount of candy left that I intended to hand out if anyone came to the door, but we only had one person to do it.  I did not stand outside like usual because it was too cold, and I didn’t leave our outside lights on.  I stood at our kitchen window, which gave me an excellent view of the people streaming into our neighborhood.  It was jam-packed, as usual.  There were hundreds of kids!  I enjoyed seeing some of the costumes, but once it was dark, the neighborhood just sounded busy and chaotic.  The city let them trick-or-treat until 8:00 PM.

passed out kitty

Look who came in and passed out close to 10:00!  Haha!  Jake wanted to be outside during all of this, but he came in a little stressed and exhausted and passed out on the couch with his little head buried in it.  He slept all night there.  I couldn’t believe it!

Cold Air Blast

This past week, we received a cold air blast, with at least a few nights down to freezing.  I was SO not ready for it.   The Teen has missed a couple of days of school because he has had some sinus issues going on.  So, we’ve mostly stayed inside all week.  It finally warmed up yesterday, and I was back in my shorts today.  Hubby blew off the leaves on the patio, and I did very little except clean up the kitchen from breakfast and do a load of laundry. I also caught up on my napping! Haha! I feel like the whole time we’ve been having our roof worked on, I missed a lot of rest because I couldn’t nap those days and didn’t sleep well some of those nights because my brain didn’t want to turn off.  I guess I am just catching up on my sleep!  Haha!

Skincare Routine Update

The cold air also got me into a serious skincare routine this week.  My facial skin gets so dry when it gets colder, so each and every night and day this week, I have been really trying to care for my skin. Usually, I’ve just been putting on moisturizer and calling it good during the warmer months, but this time, I broke out my serums!

Each day, I start with a clean face and use A Multi-peptide + HA serum from The Ordinary.

the ordinary buffet

It used to be called “Buffet”.  After that sets in and dries, I apply the moisturizer I am currently using, which is Palmer’s Moisture Rich Night Cream.

I think I picked that up at Dollar General one day when I was at the end of my rope trying to find a moisturizer for my face that didn’t feel sticky and irritate my eyes. It works great, and I use it night and day!  If I am wearing makeup (which is hardly ever now), I don’t use these products under it.  I probably should, but I’m also weird about how moisturizer feels under my makeup.  If it’s a makeup day, I use Farsali’s Unicorn Tears primer.  It feels incredibly light, and it makes my makeup look so smooth and flawless.

In the evening, I clean my face again, and then I use my moisturizer.  But, every Sunday and Wednesday evening, I apply Shani Darden’s Retinol Reform and then apply the moisturizer on top of that.

The Retinol Reform is pricey, but since it’s retinol, I don’t use it every single night.  Sometimes, I wish I had taken better care of my skin years ago, and some days, I reason that we all get older and none of these products will reverse the signs of aging.  I don’t think my skincare routine is expensive compared to others, and it’s really more about making my skin feel moisturized and nourished now.  Better sleep and staying hydrated help, too.  I need to work on all of those things.

So, that was this past week in a nutshell.  Nothing terribly exciting.  I hope you’ve had a great week and that you enjoy getting an extra hour of sleep!

Hello! Naps are essential, right?! And, like you, I have to pay extra attention to my skin this time of year. It doesn’t come naturally to me, unlike my daughter, Madison, who loves everything skincare! To me, it feels more like a chore! Your Halloween bags look festive, and your kitty is precious. Have a cozy Sunday, my friend!

Your treat bags are cute! We had no trick or treaters out in the country, but I made bags for my grands.
I like your make up routine and will have to check a few of those products.

I hate y’all didn’t have any trick or treaters, but I can understand with living far out. My mom lives a few blocks from us and she only had two! They all come to my neighborhood! LOL!

Cetaphil makes great products! I haven’t tried that in years, but I may need to! I think I bought the Teen some to use. I’ll have to check and see.

No extra hour of sleep here either, but an extra hour in the day today. Hopefully, I will make good use of it. We are beginning our colder, drier weather, too, and my hands are the ones that suffer the most.

Oh, my hands are the worst! I do use an Avon lotion on them at night that is really thick. I’ll have to check the name of it, but I think it has Intensive Repair in the title? In any case, my hands look so much older than the rest of my body. I also wash them alot, which probably doesn’t help the dryness any.

What a beautiful kitty! No extra hour sleep here – kitty stays on his own internal clock – so I just get up an hour earlier according to the clock.
Have a good day. It is warming up here, hopefully in your area as well.

Cheryl, if Jake had stayed in that night, I’m sure he would have made sure I was up an hour earlier than usual! Haha! Cats sure don’t have any concept of Daylight Savings time changes.

Hi Mandy! I love your cute Halloween treat bags. It was interesting to read about your skincare routine. My skin is also very, very dry in the winter and I don’t wear much makeup either. I have heard that Dollar General makes good products. It’s always good to see what is up with you. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi Deb! I’d imagine that living where you do, dry skin is probably a big struggle. It’s something I constantly battles, especially on my hands and face. I’m always searching for the best thing to help! Haha!
