Shortly after I have my own son prepared for starting school, I have to start turning a good amount of my attention to my own students and my classroom. Each year, we’re always in need of new classroom equipment and supplies. Surveying our classroom needs and planning for purchases is a major process.
I love being a school librarian and one fun aspect of that is shopping for my students each year. I’m a bargain hunter, so I’m always on the lookout for school equipment for less, looking for everything we need to have a successful year while stretching our allotted dollars as far as they will go. It’s tough sometimes, because software and books, not to mention the bigger ticket items like computers and ink, can be expensive.
One of my goals this school year is to load up on as much educational software as I can. My students love to use the computer, and it’s such an important skill for them to grasp in our technology-fueled world. We have several major, measurable reading, spelling, vocabulary and math programs already in place, but I also want to add a few more programs to give them more options to choose from.
I’m also loving the fact that many teaching resources, such as printable worksheets and lesson planning materials can now be found online. It’s a huge help to me as I plan our weekly lessons.
I’m excited about our new materials and can’t wait to get them in and start using them. I know my students will be excited, too.
