I am so not creative when it comes to bulletin boards.  I’m not kidding when I tell you that everyone at my new school has mastered the art of 3D bulletin boards that look like they have stepped right off of the Pinterest website.  I definitely feel like mine won’t ever measure up.  All I knew at the beginning of school is that I wanted a candy themed bulletin board, so I went looking for a little Pinsperation.  I finally came up with this to greet my students outside the library.

It’s definitely not perfect, but I think it turned out ok.  The kids love it and I have to remind them that the cotton candy isn’t real.  It looks real because I hand dyed cotton balls pink to make it look as realistic as possible.  Did you know it’s impossible to find colored cotton balls anymore?  I had no idea until I searched high and low all over town and the internet.  I found some online, but you had to order an obscene amount of them.  I just needed a few.

I used paper plates wrapped in cellophane and tied with curling ribbon for gumballs (which looks kind of sad and droopy three weeks into school) and also used another swirl paper plate I found on Amazon for the lollipop.  I found the Candy Land border and the candy letters on Amazon, too.

And now it’s September and I have to find something else to put up.  I’m going for an owl theme this time.  I will let you know how it turns out.

How did you hand dye the cotton balls?
The cotton candy is my favorite look that you’ve created!

Hi! I just put a little red food coloring in some water, just enough to give it a pink coloring. If you have pink food coloring, that would work even better! I soaked the cotton ball sin the water for a bit and then squeezed out the water and let them dry, fluffing them out when they were dry. The drying process takes awhile. A long time ago I used to find colored cotton balls in stores. It’s so much easier if you can! Hope this helps. Thanks so much for stopping in!

I’m not very crafty or creative myself. I think the bulletin board turned out wonderfully. In fact, I may have to go with those ideas for an upcoming birthday party.
