It’s time for my monthly “Books I Read” post.  I only read three books this month, but I guess that’s better than nothing.  I’m one of those readers with several books going at once.  So, I’m reading a few others, but I’m only posting what I finish for the month on my monthly posts.

What I Read in February 2023

Home on the Harbor: Romantic Women's Fiction (Cliffside Point, 4)Home on the Harbor: Romantic Women’s Fiction (Cliffside Point, 4)Christmas at Cliffside: Romantic Women's Fiction (Cliffside Point, 5)Christmas at Cliffside: Romantic Women’s Fiction (Cliffside

In last month’s post, I told you all how I fell in love with the Cliffside Point series by Ellen Joy. I eagerly finished the next two in the series, Home on the Harbor and Christmas at Cliffside.  Just when I think the next book can’t possibly be as good as the last one I finish reading, Ellen Joy does it again!  I love these books so much.  They are clean, they have a great story, and you get invested in all the characters.  The Kindle versions of these books are just $3.99, which I consider a bargain for the quality!

Remarkably Bright Creatures: A Read with Jenna PickRemarkably Bright Creatures: A Read with Jenna Pick

This month’s third book read was Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.  This book was actually published last year to rave reviews, but I’m just now getting a chance to read it.  Y’all…this is seriously the best book I have read so far this year!

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago.

Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.

Shelby Van Pelt’s debut novel is a gentle reminder that sometimes taking a hard look at the past can help uncover a future that once felt impossible.

I went into reading this book very skeptical that I could even be interested in a book with an octopus as a central character, but I was completely wrong! I read it in two days, it was that good! I even thought I had the ending of this book figured out, but the author throws a curve ball, and I liked her ending way better! If you haven’t checked this one out, it’s definitely worth the read.

My First DNF of the Year

So, I had my first DNF (Did Not Finish) book this month.  It was a book called Of Literature and Lattes by Katherine Reay.

Of Literature and LattesOf Literature and Lattes

I wanted to love this book, even for its cute little cover! But alas, I got well into 150 pages, and by that point, I was forcing myself to turn each page. There wasn’t enough advancement in the story, and it seemed like there were so many characters being introduced I couldn’t keep them straight,  so I stopped reading it. Just by looking at reviews on Good Reads and Amazon, I’m not alone in my thoughts.

Speaking of Good Reads, you can follow me there!  I’d love to follow you back and get some new book ideas.  I also welcome any book recommendations in the comments below!  Thanks for stopping by, and happy reading!
