I’m happy to report the number of books I read in April was more than just the one I read last month! Even better, they were all excellent books! I love when I get sucked into a good book that I don’t want to put down, and all three of these fit the bill! April was a particularly rainy, dreary month here, and it made for perfect reading weather!
Books I Read in April 2023
The Great Beanie Baby Bubble- The Amazing Story of How America Lost Its Mind Over A Plush Toy- And the Eccentric Genius Behind It by Zac Bissonnette was probably my favorite out of the three books I read this month. If you ever collected Beanie Babies in the 90s or had kids that did, well, you’ll love this nostalgic trip back to the beginning of the Beanie Babies craze.
I started collecting Beanie Babies in 1998, and even then, it was mainly just the McDonald’s Teenie Beanie Babies and a couple of the full-sized ones. We only had one shop in town that carried them, and they were always sold out by the time I knew any were available. However, by 1999, I was hooked on collecting them. Moving to Texas after marriage made finding those cute little plush animals easier. By this time, much of the craziness over Beanie Babies was waning, and I certainly had NO idea that grown men and women had turned collecting them into full-on investments! This book does an intense dive into the rise of the Beanie Babies craze while also giving a better picture of Ty Warner, the man behind the adorable plush animals. It’s a very juicy read, and if you ever cared about Beanie Babies, then you owe it to yourself to read this wild and crazy tale! This was definitely my favorite book I read this month!
The Hotel by Pamela Kelley was another surprisingly great read! For some reason, I have been on a kick this year with light romance books set in Nantucket, so this was the perfect book to introduce me to this author. This story takes place in a family-owned and run resort hotel in Nantucket and follows the lives of the hotel employees and their love interests. I loved that this book kept things light (because I don’t particularly care for heavy romantic stuff), and the whole story had a nice and tidy ending. While I love a good book series, it was nice to wrap one up in a single book for a change. However, I enjoyed this author’s style and will check out more of her books!
The Inn By The Cove by Ellen Joy was another enjoyable read. You know how much I love Ellen Joy’s books; this one was no exception. It’s actually book 1 in a new series called Camden Cove, but I’m not sure if I will continue this particular series. This one also follows a woman working in her family’s seaside inn and how she falls for a wealthy man who has come to improve the inn. I won’t give too much away if you want to read it. I didn’t regret reading it. I guess I’m more invested in Ellen Joy’s Cliffside Point series.
So, that makes three books for this month! I’ll count that as a win for sure! As always, you can follow me at GoodReads to see what I’m reading. I’d love to follow you, too, so drop your link in the comments if you have one, or tell me what you’ve been reading lately!

You need to read all the other Pamela Kelley books! She is one of my favorite authors, thanks to her Beach Plum Cove series. She actually helped my sister and me plan our trip to the Cape back in the fall of last year! I love when authors correspond with their readers, and she’s great at that.

We had our share of Beanie Babies here. Mine could have never been valuable because my son did not like the tags on them and proceeded immediately upon purchasing to remove his. I actually still have a ton of them downstairs for the grands to play with if they ever choose. Thus far, no one has found them interesting.
I will have to write the two light romance ones down for my summer list.

I hope your grandsons discover them one day! Haha!

I always enjoy hearing about what people are reading. I didn’t collect beanie babies, but my kids had some. That sounds very interesting!

Great list. I’m always looking for light reads close to summer, but nonfiction is my true passion. While I didn’t collect Beanie Babies, we certainly had enough of them around the house. It sounds like a juicy read. Thanks!!
