I guess I always wondered what it would be like someday when we lost one of our cats. Bonnie and Clyde came to us on a hot July day in 2001 as small, playful kittens. They were a pair…on the run from who knows where….thus, their names.
This morning our neighbor brought Bonnie to me. She went out last night around 11 PM and she never came back. He found her near their home, by the road late last night while coming home. She had been hit and he was kind enough to remove her from further harm, wrap her gently in a garbage bag and lay her by our fence until morning. I went to bed last night worried about her and deep down I guess I knew something was wrong. She never not came when called.
Explaining to our son has been tough. Watching Clyde, our male cat and Bonnie’s brother and life-long companion sit beside her lifeless body, then pace, then sit some more has been absolutely heartbreaking.
And I can’t even begin to imagine our household with her absence. Bonnie, the one who curled up in bed with me for exactly 7 minutes (and she was done) every night, the one who nipped at my ankles when I was on the computer, who would bring me her fishing rod toy in her mouth and beg by loud meowing to play.
The one who loved nothing better than wallowing in the cool grass on a beautiful day.
I still keep looking out our door, thinking she will appear any minute.
I suppose I should be grateful for the amazing 8 years she spent with us, and I am. I suppose I should also be relieved that we never had to wonder what happened to her, for she’ll rest forever in a shady spot underneath the tree my son plays under. But right now, it’s all of very little consolation.
My sweet Bonnie Belle, oh how we will miss you.

So sorry. It is so hard. We lost our Pumpkin last year, also hit by a car.
Congrats on your new adopted kitty!

I am so sorry for your loss! Your post really hit home because we just had to send our beloved Skye to kitty heaven 2 days ago….it is unbelievably hard and I miss her terribly! After 11 years of unconditional love & companionship, her absence is almost unbearable. This is the hardest part about being a pet owner.

My heart goes out to you for the loss of your beautiful Bonnie. (((hugs))) I had tears in my eyes reading this post about her and her brother.
One of our cats passed away in Dec of 2007 and it's still hard on me…they really are part of the family, aren't they?
Love the pictures, they're both gorgeous cats.

Well now you've make me cry. Poor Clyde. Poor you, and your family.
I'm glad you knew what happened to her – yay for your neighbour. It'd be hard never to find out why a pet vanished.
Best wishes.

I'm so sorry! I lost two cats last year and one more, Bob, is on a decline. They do become a part of the family, and it is very sad when they go. I wish pets could live as long as we do!
Hugs,
Kelli

I am so sorry for your loss. Pets become family so quickly. Only pet lovers/owners can understand your pain.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. I lost my dog, Paris, in the same way 2 years ago and I cried like a baby, more so than the kids. Sorry for your family's loss.

So sorry for your loss. It is never easy to explain to children. I teared up when you described how the brother was acting, just like in the book Where the red fern grows. I hope that Clyde makes it throw this okay, as well as your family.

Sending my condolences. We lost a beloved cat whose name was Clyde and he was 8 as well. We had to put him down on March 15th, my birthday. We still miss him.
