I guess this post will be about birthdays and birds. Haha! But first, a little food…
Last weekend, I made the Hawaiin Chicken recipe Mari posted on her blog, which was so good! Hubby loved it! I think this will become a regular for us. I love it because I can throw it in the crockpot without fussing over it. I also miraculously made the perfect rice to go with it! It turned out so good! I think the secret was buying parboiled rice this time. If you are looking for a delicious, easy recipe, check this one out! And PS…Mari’s photo of this looks way better than mine!
And I’m sorry y’all have to see my little scratched-up bowl! Haha! This large-rim soup bowl and one more are the survivors of our everyday wedding place sets from 25 years ago. This particular bowl is perfect for dishes like this, and I keep them even though they are scratched up and need replacing. Is anyone else weird like that and has a particular bowl or plate you eat certain things from? I promise we have three nicer dish sets in case you should join us for dinner sometime, haha!
The Birds
I’ve also been feeding and watching my birds a lot.
My female cardinal. I call her Cardi B. Haha.
This is Cardinal St. Francis, my male cardinal.
I wish I could get better photos of them zoomed in, but I just use my iPhone camera, and this is as good as it gets. I buy them birdseed, but I also feed them whatever bread or crackers we have that might need to be used up at the time. My adult child will often take the crusts off of things, so we don’t let anything go to waste that the birds can eat.
The Birthday
That sounds so funny to say…my adult child. I can’t say The Teen anymore since he turned 20 on Monday. I have no idea what to call him on my blog now. Maybe Young Man? Does anyone have any fun suggestions? Anyway, he went to college that day, and I got him chicken from Popeyes for supper (his pick), and he had a big bucket full of his favorite snacks and a Coca-Cola in a bottle with balloons waiting on him at home. We will celebrate him this weekend, and he has chosen a Mexican restaurant for his birthday meal. We may try to squeeze this in on Friday at lunch since Friday evening (Valentine’s Day) will surely be busy around town!
What I’ve Been Up To
This week, weather-wise, has been yucky. It rained Tuesday and Wednesday all day and night and turned cold. Even poor Jake didn’t want to go out! I did get out on Monday and took Mama to get her staples and stitches out. We will return to her plastic surgeon next week so he can look at it again.
Other than that, I started reading another book, listening to podcasts, and reading blogs. Things that make me happy are distractions from the dumpster fire that is in the world right now. We really do live in interesting times…

A good crockpot recipe is always worth trying! Happy birthday to your young adult! Hope he had a great day.
Happy birthday!!! He will always be your “baby”, my friend. Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
I love watching birds. Unfortunately, we don’t have the variety here that we did at our old house. I’ll have to look up the chicken recipe since it is getting good reviews from everyone. Have a fun birthday celebration.
Young Man sounds good or you could say, My Son. One of my cousins was called “Sonny” by his parents and eventually, everyone called him “Sonny”, even his wife! 😀
I hope the birthday lunch will be a lovely celebration and the restaurant won’t be too crowded. Happy birthday to your son, again.
Oh I saw Mari’s recipe, too. It looked really good. Now I have two reliable recommendations. I need to try it for sure!!
I thought that recipe by Mari looked so good too and I have it filed away. Nice to know another thumbs on it! 🙂
I like young man for your son if you want to refer to his age – I think it states it perfectly. 😉
Love the bird pics and their names. Cardi B – ha! Love it!
Blessings to your son for a very fun birthday weekend.
xoxo
I’m so glad you liked the chicken recipe! I love it when I can put things in the crock pot and have minimal fuss at suppertime.
I wish I had an idea for what to call your son. Why’d he have to go and grow up? 🙂
Enjoy that birthday lunch!
Happy birthday to your son! The Hawaiin chicken recipe is a good one and I love an easy, delicious slow cooker meal. Have a good day!
