On Friday, I found out I’m a cheap date! Ha! It’s no secret that hubby and I have mostly hibernated in the house all winter. I order groceries to be delivered or picked up. My outings mainly consist of doing the carpool shuffle and visiting my mom during the week. But on this past Friday, we decided to come out of our shells early in the morning.
Usually, on Fridays, Hubby is home, so he does the carpool duty. He will also fetch a grocery pickup, and we mostly unwind at home. Hubby loves eating out, which we don’t do very much of. He also loves eating breakfast with my mama, so we all decided to have breakfast together after dropping the Teen off at school. We went to a nearby place we’ve been to before, mainly because besides McDonald’s, they are the only place in town where you can go inside and sit.
It’s very nice inside, but the food is just “meh.” Sadly, I wasn’t impressed the first time I ate there, and this breakfast meal was more of the same. However, I loved the company! It was good to get to visit with my mama. We were fortunate to get her company on a Friday because she has a standing lunch appointment with her friends every Friday unless the weather is bad. My mom was so sweet to treat us to this breakfast. I’m so thankful for her.
Thrifting
After breakfast, I was itching to get out and look at a local thrift store. I love thrifting. I can’t usually find anything to wear, but I sometimes run across some cool things for the home. On this day, we hit the jackpot! Hubby scored a brand new-looking pair of Levi’s jeans, and I scored 5 puzzles! I found one puzzle there not too long ago, but there was such a great selection this time, and I decided five would be plenty to keep me busy for the next few months! I paid $1 for each of them. I picked up a few other odd and end things, but we didn’t spend much. I’d say this was a very successful trip!
And Then We Had Lunch
I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture of my lunch on this day. Hubby discovered a while back that one of our local grocery store’s delis has a wonderful Friday lunch! Before heading home, we stopped at this store and went in to choose our to-go lunches. I got the BBQ ribs, potato salad, and okra. Hubby got the baked chicken. It is absolutely delicious, and for $9.95, it’s hard to beat! I think this just may become a Friday ritual for us! Ha!
As we headed home, Hubby laughed and said I was a cheap date. I told him he should be glad of that in this economy! It’s funny how we hardly spent any money on this particular day, but we enjoyed each other’s company so much and had the best time together. It just reminded me that sometimes it really is the little things that make life so sweet!
And Supper!
I napped after the Teen arrived home safely from school that day. When I woke up, Hubby was starting a taco feast in the kitchen!
I crushed up my taco shells, made a big taco salad, and couldn’t finish all of it! And once again, a home meal is more economical than eating out. I went a little crazy stocking our pantry during Covid, so we’ve been trying to use up as many of our canned goods and things that will expire this year.
So, that was our weekend in a nutshell. Who knows what wild and crazy stuff we will get up to this week? Haha!

I’m a cheap date, too. Like you said, it’s all about the company!! We did a lot of hibernating, too. Like Billie Jo, we’ve been slow to re-enter too and I’m just fine with that!

Love this! As I was reading it I was thinking to myself….the small things, and our favorite people, are what really bring joy. So I love that you said that out loud too! I love thrift stores too and need to get out to them more often. A lot of decorating in my home is thrifted from antique stores as I love vintage look and feel. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed rest of your week. xo
