I’m coming to you with this blog post as another year older! Maybe that’s why my blogging has slowed down so much? Haha! I’m really struggling to get it together and blog more often, but the truth is that life isn’t very exciting at the moment. I’m busy with all the little nuances of life, as we all are, but life has taken on a slightly slower pace, and it’s just not as exciting. However, I have learned that mundane and not exciting days are still GOOD days!
I turned 51 last Wednesday. I took turning 50 very hard last year, but I was ok with things this year. I started my day out by getting a MUCH-needed haircut. I wish you could have seen how much hair was on the floor at my hairdresser’s shop! It had gotten so long, and it was beginning to be a pain to care for. I probably had 4 inches cut off and felt like a brand-new woman!

Hubby and Young Man showered me with Bath & Body Works gift cards (the way to my heart, haha!), and we went out and had a great lunch! It just so happened that Hubby was off work that day, and Young Man was able to get home early from school. I love days like that when it all works out!

I always order the boiled shrimp and the fajita potato when we go to this particular restaurant. It’s so good! And then we went home, and I took a glorious nap! Haha! Now THAT’S a good birthday!
I got my first order from Goose Creek Candles and fired up a couple of them to try out. The Marshmallow Sugar candle is to die for! It smells so sweet and amazing! It’s easily my favorite in this order! (I am not an affiliate for this company. Just sharing something I love!)

I’ve also been burning Vanilla Sands, and it’s just “ok”. I probably wouldn’t reorder this one because it smells like lotion to me. I’m burning it along with another random sweet-smelling candle I have to kind of layer over that smell. So far, it’s working. I didn’t pay a lot of money for this candle, but I’m still going to use it up!

But one candle I am really enjoying is this Mainstays candle I picked up at Walmart. For being so inexpensive, it sure gives off a great throw! I think it’s a great transition-to-fall candle, and I would definitely repurchase this one.

It has been quite cool in the mornings so far this week, and I’m thankful for the relief from the heat. However, I am now having to dig out my pajama pants and leggings for the mornings, and I’m not sure I’m ready to do all that yet, haha! It’s so hard to believe it’s almost September. I am ready for the “ber” months, though. I love to pull out all of my fall decor because it can stay up for three months! I’ve also purchased a few more fall-scented candles to get me through this next season. I have just really come back into loving candles here lately. I loved them so much as a newlywed and almost exclusively purchased Yankee Candles. However, they have become so much more expensive, and I’ve heard that the throw isn’t as great on them anymore because they have switched to soy wax. Anyway, please be aware that you may occasionally see me showcasing new candles here. I don’t know why they bring me such joy here lately, but I happily welcome joy in all forms, haha!
The young man started school last Monday and is doing great so far, enjoying all his classes. He is studying Precision Manufacturing and Machine Technology. He loves being in all of his “shop classes” and he is learning so much. Lord willing, he will graduate with his associate’s degree in May of next year.
I’ve been trying for a better bedtime for myself, but so far, I’m still struggling with it. I know once it starts getting darker much earlier outside, that may greatly help things! I just hope I don’t get the “sads” this year. I always struggle a little with feeling down when the time changes towards the fall and winter months. I know many others do as well.
Next up on my agenda is clearing off a cabinet shelf in the laundry room and re-organizing our pantry. I have let the pantry kind of get disorganized here lately, and now it’s to the point where I can’t readily put my hands on what I need. I’ve also got more cleaning out to do in our extra bedroom/office/catch-all. I’ve been able to put a good dent in that over the last month, but it still needs more. Always something!
Hope everyone is doing well. I’m taking things slow this morning so I’ll be visiting blogs for sure today and getting caught up! Hope you are having a great day!

Happy belated birthday! How lovely to be able to celebrate the day with both your husband and your son. 🙂
Thank you, Bless! It was a great day!
Happy belated birthday to you! It sounds like it was a good day!
Thanks so much, Marilyn!
Happiest of birthdays to you dear Friend! Check your email for a fun e-card from me 🙂
I pray that 51 is all you wish it to be.
Sounds like you had a wonderful day with those you love and treasure most in the world. And that you got to feel so spoiled and relaxed is the icing on the proverbial cake. 💝
I love candles too and I’m excited to find a new one for the season. I’ll need to go hunting soon!!
Blessings always. xo
Carrie! I did receive your e-card and it was SO sweet! Thank you so much! It was beautiful and such a fun surprise! You must go check out the new candles at B&BW! Some of them are SO good this fall season!
Great way to celebrate your birthday with a new haircut. I think it suits you well.
I’m not a candle person, but I find it fun to see how much you like them. Glad you’ve found inexpensive ones that you really like.
Thank you! Yes, candles are getting so expensive. I used to use Yankee Candles and the prices were a little high to me back then, but the same ones are nearing $40 now! Too much for a candle for my budget.
Happy Belated Birthday, Mandy!! I remember turning 50 as being a bit of a shock. And then I was okay until I turned 70. I’ve stopped counting now! LOL
Thank you for all the candle recommendations. I love candles but they have become pricey and some just seem disappointing for the price. I’ll be watching for more recommendations.
I’m in the process of going through things and clearing out stuff I no longer need. I love the feel of rearranging and sprucing things up.
Gosh, I haven’t been to a /Bath and Body Works in ages! You’re making me want to head there right now.
Thanks, Melanie! If I make it to 70 I will feel very blessed indeed! I guess it’s all in just being grateful for another year. And with my health issues, I am VERY grateful! Good for you for getting some things cleaned out. It’s just so much easier to maintain things when there isn’t much to clutter things up. It’s a constant work in progress for me. If you head to Bath & Body Works, I hope you find a candle you love!
Sounds like a perfect birthday to me!!!! Happy birthday with many more to come.
Love your hair.
I am a huge candle fan – so tell away when you find something good. I love the fall scents all the time. Not a fan of flowery smells.
Cheryl, I’m so excited that you love candles, too! I’m definitely going to share more about them soon! There are so many great fall scents out now. I’m trying several. Thanks for the birthday wishes and the hair compliments! It was a great day!
Happy Birthday! That’s a really cute picture of you, you look great.
I am a candle lover too and often have them burning, so I always enjoy a recommendation. I haven’t tried Goose Creek Candles and will have to look them up.
Thanks so much, Mari! I’m new to Goose Creek, too, and some have been hit or miss. I’ll be sure to share more about them soon.
