It has been extremely cold here in the Mississippi Delta for the past few nights. Last night was no exception, so I cranked the heater up before going to bed and watched the local forceast on the Weather Channel. I could see light snow dancing all around our city on the radar, but it didn’t look menacing enough to warrant any attention, so I went to sleep.
By 6:30 AM this morning, I could see we got a light dusting of snow overnight. By 7 AM, it was coming down pretty good. It was beautiful…so serene to watch, and that’s exactly what I did while having my morning coffee. I excitedly woke E.B. up for school and showed him. We did the “IT’S SNOWING!!!!” victory dance and he babbled on and on about making a snowman, snow cream, and hitting me with a snowball.
We had big plans when he got out of school for some fun in the snow, y’all.
It snowed all morning, but only tiny flurries that never amounted to anything. By 2:45 PM when I picked E.B. up from school, he walked outside to the car in a dumfounded state. “Where is the snow, Mama???!!!”, he cried. I explained that it just wasn’t a big snow this time and the sun was out and it had all melted. He then immediately demanded that I make the sun go back in and bring back the snow, all while huge crocodile tears streamed down his little face.
Oh, the heartbreak!
He eventually let it go once we got home. However, guess what we’re in for Wednesday night/Thursday morning? Snow SHOWERS! Showers are totally way bigger than flurries, right? I’m not telling E.B. yet, though. I hope we wake up Thursday morning to canceled school and work and enough snow to make the biggest snowman ever.
But not before I go to the grocery store. Because that’s what people in the South do before it snows.

Did he get his snow? Hope so. A snowman? Hope so. My little men have been begging to make a snowman, too, but it's been too, too cold. Hoping for a warm up this week and then we can build to our hearts content. Maybe even a sledding excursion tomorrow. We shall see.

Poor little dude! I'd be glad to send ALLLLL our snow his way!
So…did you wake up to a bunch of it on yesterday???

Yes, we are wildly preparing for snow around these parts, too! Bread and milk? Check!! Anxiously awaiting school closings? Check! Check! Hope it snows a lot for your sweet boy!

Let me get this right, your son had school? (Insert seriously vicious word choices and grumbling here), I love the snow, I grew up with snow and you know, going to school in the snow. I now live in Western Washington, we don't get much snow. And heaven forbid, if a few flakes fall the schools shut down quicker than you can say "Sno…". Grumble, grumble, grumble.
Sorry, your little guy didn't get to enjoy it much. I'm praying for some more snow for you guys so he can play his little heart out.

Usually the snow here never lasts til lunch time – but we have had about 4 weeks of freezing temps and snow flurries. There was more snow last night, and my kids no longer run out to play in wonder….the novelty of snow has finally worn off!

You are absolutely right about goling to the grocery before a snow. I am also from MS. When we get an inch of snow, we think its a blizzard. As for me, I am ready for some summer weather. I am just not cut out for this cold stuff.

Oh, dear! Poor thing! My son is eight and has seen snow twice. I try not to ever but ever mention the "S" word until it's on the ground, visible to the naked eye.
Amy Bayliss says
Awe… poor baby! Don't you hate it when stuff like that happens?
I remember a few years back when we were "teased" with the idea of snow and it didn't really come to fruition. I went out to Wal-Mart and bought a sno-cone maker and lined the boys up in my garden tub while I cranked out the "snow". I just felt so bad that they didn't get to see any of the real thing.

Aw poor little guy =( I would've been heartbroken too. I hope you get LOTS of snow Thursday, I'll send you what we still have here on the ground lol, I'm tired of looking at it ha!
Diva Ma @ Mommy Fabulous says
AWWW! We would have had a snow day just from the IDEA that it might snow! Happened to us last year without even a flake falling out of the sky!
Llama Momma says
Come on over to the Llama House! We've got some serious snow. 😉
