I got a few extra days off work last week due to the weather. We were awakened around 4 AM last Saturday morning to the tornado siren blaring throughout the humid night. It was way too warm outside for January, even for Mississippi standards, so I knew we might be in for some nasty weather before I went to bed. My Weather Channel app woke me up with a flash flood warning at 3:40 AM, so I made my way downstairs and put on some coffee because I wanted to stay up in case it got bad so I could get the hubby and kid up.
Things ramped up a little after 4 AM. We lost power at 4:30 and it didn’t come back on until afternoon that day. However, we were very fortunate as we would later learn via Facebook that so many in our county and surrounding areas weren’t. It turns out an EF-2 tornado went a little north of us. There was a good bit of damage throughout the town and even a few injuries. The little town I work in about 20 miles away was left without running water or power for three days, so work was called off for Monday and Tuesday. I spent those days catching up on some housework and it was nice to be able to take the kid to school and pick him up. Besides just sticks in the yard, this was the only damage we had. I just sat it back upright until we can replace it this spring.
No matter how long (or short!) the workweek is, I still look forward to the weekends. Hubby and I went out to eat Friday night at the Pickled Okra, a great little restaurant downtown that we have decided has the best steaks. We haven’t been out in a few weeks, so it was nice to relax and visit over a good meal. After we came home, I went to bed almost immediately. I woke up at 3 that morning and had been going all day. It was a good deep sleep. I slept and read a good bit Saturday. I did hubby’s laundry for the upcoming week and kept the kitchen clean, but that was it.
Hubby gave the kid his first driving lesson on Saturday! He will be 15 next month and old enough to get his permit. It blows my mind because not only am I not ready for this, but I can’t believe I had my driver’s license at 15! I was taking Driver’s Ed when I was already my son’s age. However, the kid can take it or leave it when it comes to driving. He isn’t in any rush, and that’s perfectly fine with me. He can’t get his license until he is 16. I’m just glad hubby wants to take on teaching him. I don’t think my nerves would allow me to do it! Ha!
So now it’s Sunday evening and I’m doing a little laundry and reading blogs on Feedly. I love the Feedly blog reader. However, it’s time for me to upgrade because I have run out of the allotted blogs I get for a free subscription. I read so many and it’s my favorite way to unwind on the weekends.
