A Busier Than Usual Weekend

Our weekend was certainly a little busier than usual.  It all started with a bright and early eye appointment for the Teen and me on Friday morning.  We were overdue for eye exams.  The Teen needed new glasses, and I needed a new prescription for contacts, so we went to the appointment we had been waiting months for.  It didn’t take long, and then we headed to pick out the Teen’s new glasses.

picking out glasses

He found a pair he liked, and they got him fixed up.  His new glasses should be in by the beginning of next week.  I have been wearing reading glasses for years to see anything close up.  I can’t even see the writing on my phone without them.  My eye doctor put me in a pair of bifocal contact lenses to try out, and WOW!!  I think these things are going to change my whole life!  Haha!  The strength wasn’t quite right as far as seeing far off, but it made a huge difference up close!  I could see without my readers!  So, I got my prescription, came home, and ordered the correct strength online.  Those should be in next week as well.  I’m so glad we got that taken care of.

Saturday was pretty busy as well!  I was able to have lunch with two of my friends I graduated high school with.  One was in town to visit with her dad, and the other was my very best friend who lives here.  We met up at Hey Joe’s, a local burger joint.  I hadn’t been to eat here in years, but it was so good!  I had a chicken wrap called the “Ethel” and a side salad.

I can’t wait to go back and order one again!  The only downside was that their air conditioner wasn’t working.  It was a balmy 103 that day!  We weren’t too uncomfortable, but it was definitely hot.  Many businesses have been having trouble with their cooling systems just not being able to keep up with this scorching heat we’ve had.  Anyway, it was so good to catch up with my friends, and I’m so thankful we could get a lunch visit in!

After lunch, I had to book it home to pick up the Teen for a haircut.  We live in a small town and are down to one barber who wasn’t working on Saturday.  Had I known this, we would have taken care of this earlier in the week.  I had a mini “come-apart” because The Teen had to take his senior pictures Monday morning, and there wouldn’t be time before.  Completely my fault for waiting until the last minute.  I got him an appointment at a salon for Saturday afternoon, thank goodness!  And the salon was right next door to where I had lunch!  Haha!  He was giving me the major side eye when we walked in because you actually walk through a boutique to get to the salon part.  Ha!

But, once he got settled into the chair, he and the stylist talked and talked, so I looked around the boutique while he got his hair cut.  I think it made him feel better to see another guy around his age waiting his turn when he was finished up.  The stylist did a great job, and we were on our way!

The restaurant, boutique, and salon are in an old warehouse building downtown, and I just love looking at how they’ve blended a little beauty with the rustic bones of these buildings.

We ended up ordering Mexican food Saturday night.  We were all wiped out.  Hubby had been outside setting up my new water hose, and he also hung my birdfeeder, which I am so excited about, and nobody wanted to be in the kitchen cooking during this horrible heatwave!

Miraculously we woke up to the sound of thunder Sunday morning!  We haven’t had rain in weeks!  I was so afraid the storm would pass us by, but we got a wonderful, drenching rain shower, and the temperature lowered dramatically!  I was ever so thankful!  Monday was amazing as well!  It was 86 and cloudy.  It’s the cooldown we have so desperately needed, but it’s a temporary thing.  I see more heat in our forecast for the next week.

My teen would have definitely given me a look walking into the hair salon as well! But, glad you found somewhere ahead of pictures. I still haven’t seen Sam’s yearbook required senior pics. A friend took his senior pics for family, and they are cute.

I need to get my eyes checked, too, for new glasses! Glad it cooled down a bit for you. We are having cooler than usual temperatures, right now, but, it’s supposed to warm up a bit, later in the week.

Sounds like a busy and productive Saturday getting ready for the beginning of school. You remind me that hubby and I are both overdue for our yearly eye exams. I hope things cool down for you. It’s been hot here in Utah too, and I am looking forward to cooler fall weather.

We had hot weather last week too, then a lovely storm came through and it’s much better here.
I laughed reading about the teen giving you the side eye. I could just picture it! Glad you got it done before pictures!
