Do you have holiday traditions that your family always looks forward to each year?  We have a few, but I have always wanted to add a few more to make this time of the year really special for my son.  So why haven’t I done this yet?  Lack of creativity, I suppose.  I wanted something a little different, yet meaningful.  But the biggest stipulation of all?  It had to make my son really excited!

I think we have discovered it, y’all.

This year Harper Collins Children’s hopes to start a new tradition in every family with A Bookish Countdown to Christmas.  Essentially, your child would have a book to unwrap everyday from December 1st through December 25th.  25 days of amazing books and reading!

We were sent a stack of 25 wrapped books to try this out with our son this year.  I don’t know who was more excited, him or me!  He couldn’t believe they were all for him and couldn’t wait to open them all.  He was a little disappointed to find out that we had to open just one a day, but that didn’t last long when I let him open his first book.

See that happy face?  He unwrapped Pete the Cat Saves Christmas as his first book.  I’ve decided to let him open one each night before bedtime so we can read it together.

I’ll be documenting this new Christmas tradition for our family throughout the next three weeks here on my blog and I encourage you to try this out with your family.  I can already tell this is going to be one tradition we keep!

I received books from Harper Collins Children’s to facilitate this post.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

This is such a great idea, I guess you could also wrap up 24 books that you already have to surprise them too. Will definitely think about this for next year!

What a great tradition to start! Love the addition of books into all holidays. Makes me want to try something like this for Chanukah (granted we do gift books). Love Pete the Cat here and assume your kiddo does 🙂

I thought it was awesome! As much as you and your boys read, I know they would LOVE it! And yes, I’ve fallen in love with Pete the Cat! LOL!
