Cracked Daddy and I were talking tonight about E.B.’s behavior of late. Getting back into the groove of school after being out for a whole week during the Thanksgiving holidays has resulted in some less than stellar reports from his teacher. She assures me lots of children have these adjustment problems. Or maybe she doesn’t want me to freak out and start scouting out a military academy. In any case, we’ve been grasping at straws for some behavior techniques to try.

A few of our friends have been raving on Facebook about Elf on the Shelf, swearing that their children are behaving like perfect angels so as not to prompt the spying elf to report any naughty behavior back to Santa. I’m still not quite convinced that a book and an elf to sit on a shelf in my house is going to cut it. Taking away privileges Super Nanny-style was still free the last time I checked and has quite a convincing effect on our little guy. But, it is Christmas, right?

Do you use the Elf on the Shelf? Does it work for your family?

My SIL just asked me if I thought my son would like the book and I said yes after a quick glance at it on Amazon. I thought it was a book of different activities leading up to Christmas – guess I didn't read very well.

I'm sure he will like it but I don't plan to play up the behavior part of it too much.

we have it, it is fun, they love to find him in the morning BUT they are no angels and YES i throw out that the elf is watching but that leads to questions and they tighten up for a bit and then it is back to chaos, it is worth it NOT to get them to behave but worth it for the fun.

My girls love it! We actually use Jolly the Elf which can be found at Amazon.com I don't know if it would work on making kids behave, for us it does because it's been a tradition for almost 9 years now! BTW… You move the elf numerous times a day, not only does it amaze the children and make it a fun game, they never know where the elf will be next, so no misbehaving in the other room!

That's interesting though I don't know if Owen would listen to that or not ha! I told him Santa's got eyes everywhere and he basically started with 20 questions of why and where lol!

Girl please…..My kids would just go in another room and act up.

    Those things don't scare them.
