Drive Thru Negotiations

Spread the love

It starts about 4 car lengths back.

ME: “E.B., do you want the Spiderman Happy Meal toy or The Littlest Pet Shop toy?”
E.B.: “Ummm…..Batman! Batman, Mama!”

ME: “That’s not one of the choices…it’s either Spiderman or The Littlest Pet Shop.”

E.B.: “Ummm…ok, Spidaman, Mama. Spidaman”.

Good. That’s settled. I smugly give myself a high five for remembering to ask before we are at the window and having to go through all of that at the order box. Then we wait to get to the first window. And we wait. And wait some more.

EB: “Mama, are we never gonna see Spidaman?”

ME: “Yes baby….we’re just having to wait. They must be plucking the chickens for your nuggets.” (Oh ok, I didn’t really say that last part….but I was thinking it.)

We finally get to the first window and then the second. We have food. We have Spidaman. We have a peaceful car. I fish out the Happy Meal toy and break open the plastic and hand it back to E.B.

EB: “Mama? Dis not Spidaman….dis not the red Spidaman! I WANT DA RED SPIDAMAN!!!!!!”

Sure enough, E.B. has an all black Swinging Spiderman, whatever the heck that is. He’s in hysterics and all I can do is roll my eyes heavenward and drive on.

I’m currently launching a Twitter campaign against Marvel Comics because Spiderman is supposed to be RED. I’m figuring if all of us moms unite just as they did against Motrin, we can save the sanity of driving moms who are too lazy to cook everywhere. Won’t you join me?

(And for anyone who doesn’t get my sarcasm, I am so kidding, people. Sort of.)

Ooo… haven’t been out here in awhile, and I must say that I’m loving your new look. This post made me smile. Gavyn sits in the back telling me, “Go, Mommy… Go!” No matter how many times I tell him we have to wait our turn, he throws a hissy fit anyway. Some days it cracks me up. Some days it cracks me. Kekoa was pretty perturbed with the toys when they were giving out those stuffed dogs for the Hotel for Dogs movie. He’s much happier with their new Spiderman theme. Of course, we haven’t encountered the black spiderman yet. I’ll let you know how that goes. Ha!

That is very disappointing. Luckily we got the red one when we visited.

Oh boy, I can totally see that playing out with my three year old. Most kids haven’t seen Spiderman 3, give them the red Spiderman they know and love!

I was going to fill you in on the black Spiderman thing. Tell EB it’s not my favorite either. Red is best!

Ugh! There are too many options at McD’s these days.

I always quiz them before we even get out of the car…

“Do you want nuggets or a burger?” Then when we get that settled its, “Do you want apples or fries?” Then when we get that settled its, “Do you want soda or milk?”

I have never thought to add which toy do you want to the mix. We might never actually make it into the restaurant.

Too funny! I, too, am not versed on Spidey having 2 girls. But those darn Happy Meal toys. Honestly, they drive me nuts! About a week after they get them, I usually toss them when the girls aren’t looking. Don’t give away my secret!

People are funny about that kinda thing.

Older Spider-Man fans reacted pretty much the same way back in the ’90’s when Marvel first experimented with the black costume.

They didn’t have twitter back then, but there were t shirts and letter-writing campaigns demanding they bring back the red spider-man.

Val, you are my hero! LOL! Thanks for that explaination. And wonder of all wonders, the black spiderman has not left his little hands since we got home. He even bathed with it! I never would have known why Spiderman was black…I am so not a Spiderman junky. Thanks girl!

Okay. A little Spiderman history lesson for EB…..from Stink (the spidey junky)

The black Spiderman is from Spiderman 3. Apparently this oozy thing followed Peter Parker home and attached himself to him creating a black Spiderman suit. This suit made him more powerful, but also mean. Then the suit gets into the wrong hands and Spidey has to take him out.

However, Stink hates the black spidey too.

    Hope that helps 🙂

    Luv,
A Mommy who has been forced to watch every superhero movie out on DVD. More than once.
