GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!
Have you ever wondered what goes on in a child’s mind while sitting in “big church”? Can you remember your first experiences in church as a child…the big words, the songs, the way the sermon seemed to go on forever?

Mike Thaler, popular children’s author of the Black Lagoon Series, has come out with a fantastic and humorous new book for children about first experiences in church. Preacher Creature Strikes On Sunday is one of the first in Thaler’s new Tales From The Back Pew series. Children will love the funny illustrations and story and parents and adults will appreciate the way each page opens up a dialogue for answering the questions children have about church.

I have a copy of this fantastic new book to give away to one lucky reader! Just leave a comment in the comment section below and if you’d like to tell me a funny church service story, I’m all ears! If you click the subscribe button (the first orange button under the “networking” section) and subscribe in a reader OR if you are already a subscriber, let me know and you’ll get an extra entry! Giveaway will close on Friday, March 6 at 11 PM Central. U.S. only.

My youngest son is now 6 years old. When he was 2-4 (we started coming to this church when he was 2), he would fall asleep every Sunday. He would snore so loud that everyone at least 2-3 pews away would hear him. Became a Sunday tradition.

My dad is a minister so I have lots of funny stories: usually about me getting into trouble. I used to like the summer services when my dog would find his way to church and during the service some strolling through the open front door and walk up the aisle to greet my dad as he was giving a sermon. I got to take him home and miss the rest of the service!

Then there was the time by brother came home complaining of a big bellyache. Seems as if he had just invited Jesus into his heart and there just wasn’t enough room inside him.

When we were little my girlfriend age 4 at the time turned to her mom and pointed to the cross behind the minister.

“Mommy, why is Jesus wearing diapers?”

My kids love the Black Lagoon series. I remember when my son was just 2 1/2, we were sitting in the front pew of our church. He pulled out the wipes from the diaper bag and very loudly yelled “Poopy diaper!!” I was so embarrassed but it got lots of chuckles.

Love it! Funny – I’m in the middle of writing a blog post about this story. Just last week, Seth (5) was in our “big church” and was presumably not paying a bit of attention. But later that day, he asked, “Mommy, do I have to be baptized?” I told him it is each person’s choice and he replied, “Well, you know that I don’t like water in my eyes!”

I guess he was listening to the sermon (about Jesus’ baptism) after all!

This looks like such a fun book, I want to read it myself.

The funniest thing that happened to me in church was when I was 9 years old. Mr. Fry, who was about 90 at the time, sat down beside me, slapped my knee and asked me, “Are you saved, sister?” He said it with robust enthusiasm and excitement. I must have jumped ten feet in the air. I then looked at him, looked at my mom, looked at the floor, looked at our preacher and just about burst into tears. I never did answer him. Needless to say, I always sat in between my mom and sister from then on. I now think back and giggle about the whole episode. It has actually become a fond memory. Thanks.

I wish I’d had this when I was a kid. Our preacher was one of my best friends’ dad. So we had to sit and like, pay attention. Or try to.

The Child could use this book, I just know.

he's not my child… but would be the recipient of this book… At his parents wedding… he screamed at the top of his lungs that everyone 'Stop praying!'… He's not real good at sitting still & quiet for more than 2 minutes… 😉
